Mr. Liu Qingying was arrested when she did shopping in a market. Without notifying her family, CCP authorities sentenced her two years of forced labor on October 30, 2008.

Dec. 23

Mr. Liu Qingying was sentenced to five years in prison because of practicing Falun Gong. His wife is not allowed to visit him due to she is also a Falun Gong practitioner. Prison guards also forbid lawyers to meet with him, using the pretext of "an order from higher levels."

Dec. 24

Ms. Zhang Xiuqin was detained in Xining City Detention Center in mid-November. According to guards in the detention center, at around midnight on December 7, 2008, Ms. Zhang suddenly passed out. No details of the circumstances have been given, and she was kept in isolation in a hospital until immediately before her death.

As happened in many parts of China, Falun Gong practitioners were arrested prior to the Olympics in Baoqing County. Friends and family were told they would soon be released after the Olympics, but nine of them have just been given long sentences.

These Falun Gong practitioners had a 'trial' but were not allowed a lawyer or any defense.

Mr. Kang has spent seven of the past nine years in prison due to his belief. On November 20, he suffered a total mental collapse while being tortured by guards.

Ms. Zuo Lihua's statement to appeal for the rescue of her husband Mr. Li Tang, a Falun Gong practitioner who has been detained since July 13, 2008 by CCP police using the excuse of the Olympic Games.

Mr. Chen Jian was arrested when he asked for the release of his cousin, also Falun Gong practitioner. The police tortured him for 37 days to extort a confess, then the court sentenced him four years in prison under the guise that he persuaded people to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party.
