(Clearwisdom.net) Ever since the so-called self-immolation incident occurred in Tiananmen Square, the Chinese authorities' persecution of Falun Gong-- a popular Qigong practice in China outlawed by the Jiang regime--has clearly intensified; the hostility toward Falun Gong incited by the regime's propaganda among the general population in China has broadly escalated; the death toll of Falun Gong practitioners has increased sharply during the police roundups and in locations such as prisons, labor camps, mental institutions, and all sorts of "re-education" classes and brainwashing centers where practitioners are illegally held.

Within two hours of the incident, the Chinese government's mouthpiece, Xinhua News Agency, immediately made an announcement in front of the world, blaming Falun Gong practitioners for the self-immolations. Immediately following the announcement, the Focus Interview program of Chinese Central Television Station, CCTV, broadcasted a commentary program and made authoritative-sounding conclusions, again accusing Falun Gong.

At the same time, a Falun Gong spokesperson issued a statement saying that those who set themselves on fire in Tiananmen Square were not Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong practitioners outside China have deconstructed Focus Interview's footage in detail and pointed out that the whole thing was an elaborate ploy. It is an enormous fabrication by the Jiang regime to frame Falun Gong. The severity of their actions was extreme, and their tactics were of the utmost viciousness.

Shortly after the incident, Philip Pan, a reporter from the Washington Post, went to the hometown of Liu Chunling, the woman who died at the scene of the self-immolation, to conduct an independent investigation. In his stunning front-page article on February 4, 2001, Pan revealed that Liu used to make a living as a hostess in a nightclub and that none of her neighbors ever saw Liu practice the Falun Gong exercises.

The International Education Development (IED) made an official statement at the United Nations on August 14, 2001: "...The regime points to a supposed self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square on January 23, 2001 as proof" to slander Falun Gong. "However, we have obtained a video of that incident that in our view proves that this event was staged by the government. We have copies of that video available for distribution."

Whereas the so-called self-immolation in Tiananmen Square has directly caused several deaths, in which the victims died in the most tragic way;

Whereas the incident has been widely propagated by Jiang's regime and triggered the escalation of the persecution that has claimed several hundred, possibly thousands, of lives;

Whereas the incident is full of loopholes and fallacies, and has caused a severe impact to Mainland China as well as the world;

Whereas the existing system of courts, public security, and legal counsel in China has failed to demonstrate the ability and the moral courage to impartially and professionally investigate the persecution and bring it to an end;

Therefore, all people of conscience are extremely concerned about the aforementioned; the international community must conduct serious, objective, and impartial investigation of this incident.

Below is the first list of the litigants and parties concerned that the Committee is releasing to the public. At any proper time and with all possible means, the Committee will obtain evidence from these individuals directly or indirectly. This is an integral part of the Committee's investigation and is launched as of this date.
