'I have never seen Chinese dancing like this,' said Mr. Zufelt. (The Epoch Times)
DENVER, CO - Mr. Zufelt, a professional sculptor and artist, was among the audience at the Buell Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex on Saturday, Jan. 31. to see the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) Chinese New Year Spectacular.
Mr. Zufelt specializes in making angels and believes his creations are his connection with his spirituality.
"It's a form of spiritualism that I believe in very much," he explained about his work.
When sharing about the show, he said, "I was very impressed with the combination of the different cultures with regards to the ancient Chinese music and philosophy."
Mr. Zufelt felt the performances were inspired by the spirit of an ancient culture and ancient heroic legends, which came across through the stories, the dances, and the costumes. He talked about The Five Millennia Begin, a piece that depicts divine beings assembling in Heaven to prepare for their descent to earth, where they will impart the gift of culture.
"A lot of their ancient spirituality about higher ascended beings coming along through critical periods of times, helping humanity through its evolution, was brought forward in a number of performances," he said.
He felt a connection to his own works. "Very entertaining, much like the art that I do."
"The girls, they danced so beautifully and they are so graceful and I love the costumes, the long sleeve dance [Flowing Sleeves] and the flower fan dance [Welcoming Spring], they were so wonderful to watch."
Flowing Sleeves features female dancers draped in long, flowing sleeves. The tremendous feminine grace of this ensemble is reminiscent of the women of the celebrated Tang imperial court (618-907CE). Mr. Zufelt felt the spiritual messages were universal, that all humanity was seeking ascension to a higher realm, he said, "There is very much a parallel in worlds with all of us, trying to seek a higher ascension in our world, trying to get beyond the strife and the conflict that we have had for so many generations, to finally reach a point where the world lives in peace. I think everyone wants that."
"A higher ascended purpose to human beings' life in this world, that there is an ultimate goal that we all have to ascend to a world of peace and tranquility."
Mr. Zufelt reiterated his admiration for the production and said he enjoyed learning more about the Chinese culture.
"I think it is wonderful to be able to bring these cultures close to us so we can actually experience some of those things. I have never seen Chinese dancing like this; this is why I came here to see it tonight," he said.
