(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 21 cities or counties in 15 provinces. In this report, 40 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 30 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Kaifeng City, Henan Province] Mr. Zhang Xizhu, Mr. Gou Xinmin, Ms. Li Bei and Mr. Pan Hui Arrested
The police illegally arrested Mr. Zhang Xizhu from Kaifeng City on July 24, 2009 and arrested Mr. Gou Xinmin, his daughter Li Bei and her husband Pan Hui the next day. Li Bei is held at the Kaifeng County Detention Center, while Pan Hui and Gou Xinmin are held at the Lankao County Detention Center.

2. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Additional Information Regarding the Arrest of Eight Practitioners
The police arrested the following practitioners: Mr. Han Xingxin, Mr. Du Jingyu, Mr. Dong Yurong, Mr. Wang Fenglai, Ms. Liu Suyun, Ms. Wang Fengzhi, Ms. Han Xueying and Ms. Zhang Cuifen. They are from Badaohe Township, Qinglong County, Qinhuangdao City. Reason for the arrest: they distributed Falun Gong flyers. The practitioners were first held at the Kuancheng County Detention Center.
Han Xingxin, 78, was detained for five days, after which the detention center officials called his family and released him.
The guards slapped 69-year-old Du Jingyu for refusing to give his name during interrogation. He was tortured for 15 days, and he was on a protest hunger strike throughout this period. The detention center officials called his family on July 25, 2009 and released him.
The police brutally beat Dong Yurong, who is in his 60s. He went on a hunger strike to protest. Kuancheng County Police Department officials sentenced him to 18 months in a forced labor camp. He was released on July 23, 2009 on medical parole. His family took him home.
The guards physically brutalized Wang Fenglai during an interrogation and detained him for 13 days. Kuancheng County Police Department officials sentenced him to 18 months in a forced labor camp. Mr. Wang was taken to the Shuangfengsi Forced Labor Camp in Chengde City on July 23, 2009.
Han Xueying and Zhang Cuifen were detained for 13 days, during which time they held a hunger strike. Kuancheng County Police Department officials sentenced them to 18 months in a labor camp and sent them to the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City.
Liu Suyun and Wang Fengzhi were detained for 13 days, during which they held a hunger strike. Kuancheng County Police Department officials sentenced them to 21 months in a labor camp and sent them to Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City.

3. [Meishan City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Wan Wu Arrested
Mr. Wan Wu was arrested from home on June 9, 2009 and taken to the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp.
4. [Tieling City, Liaoning Province] Changtu County Court Officials Tried Mr. Zhao Shoujin and Wife
Changtu County Court tried 61-year-old Mr. Zhao Shoujin and his wife at 9:00 a.m. on July 23, 2009. No verdict was announced.
Domestic Security Division head Liu Jianxin arrested Zhao Shoujin on November 30, 2008 and held him for more than seven months. Zhao Shoujin developed symptoms of illness due to torture. The officials responded by taking him to the Kaiyuan City Mental Hospital to "tuck him away," in order to cover up their atrocities. Zhao Shoujin's wife was held at the Changtu County Detention Center and later transferred to the Tieling City Detention Center.

5. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Chen Ying and Ms. Zeng Shunlan Arrested
Someone reported Ms. Chen Ying and Ms. Zeng Shunlan, employees of the Yueyang Chemical Factory, to the police on July 23, 2009 as they spoke with people about Falun Gong. The police arrived, arrested and held them at the Yunxi District Custody Center. Zeng Shunlan had been arrested in 2007 and was extorted for money.

6. [Rongcheng City, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Arrested
Local police arrested 69-year-old Ms. Zhang Shufeng, 72-year-old Ms. Liu Hongying and 76-year-old Mr. Ju Weishan from Fengtou Village, Gangxi Town, Rongcheng City. It happened in the evening on July 26, 2009 as they handed out Falun Gong pamphlets in Gangshanhou Village, Gangxi Town. Liu Hongying and Ju Weishan have returned home. Zhang Shufeng has been taken to the Rongcheng City Detention Center.

7. [Chongqing] Mr. Yu Hong Illegally Detained
Mr. Yu Hong lived in the Shapingba District, Chongqing. Someone reported him to the police on July 25, 2009 when he publicly exposed the Communist Party's lies in Qijiang. The police arrested him and took him to the Xicheng Police Station in Qijiang. He is currently held at the Xicheng Detention Center in Qijiang.
8. [Chongqing] Additional Information Regarding the Persecution of Ms. Liu Guiying
Police arrested Ms. Liu Guiying from the Shapingba District, Chongqing as she met with other Falun Gong practitioners. They took her to the Yupei Road Police Precinct in the Shapingba District. Officials from her workplace sent her eventually to a brainwashing facility where she has been held for more than 20 days.
9. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Wang Hongting and Mr. Wang Shigui Arrested
Li Wei, head of the Xintaimen Township Police Station in Huludao City, led four police officers and broke into the homes of Mr. Wang Hongting in Xintaimen Township and later, the home of Mr. Wang Shigui in Baimashi Township at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2009. Wang Hongting and Wang Shigui are now held at Huludao City Detention Center.
10. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Yang Guisen Arrested
It is said the police arrested Mr. Yang Guisen from Liutaizi Village, Jinjiao Township, Huludao City on July 24, 2009. The whereabouts of both Yang Guisen and his wife are unknown.
11. [Fuyu County, Jilin Province] Ms. Gu Yanwen Arrested
The police arrested Ms. Gu Yanwen from Yangdaqiao Village, Fuyu County the evening of July 17, 2009. She is now held at the Fuyu County Custody Center.

12. [Dazhou City, Sichuan Province] Update on Ms. Wu Licui and Ms. Wang Lanying
Officials from the Kaijiang County Police Department's Domestic Security Division and from the Kaijiang County 610 Office and local officials in Dazhou City ransacked Ms. Wu Licui's home at 1:00 p.m. on July 31, 2008. They confiscated all of her Falun Gong books, a bankbook and more than 150,000 yuan cash [18,750 USD] in her absence. The police located Ms. Wu as she made a mobile phone call on August 17, 2008 and arrested her when she returned home from visiting relatives. They took her back to Kaijiang County and publicly announced the arrest on August 28, 2008. She is still in detention.
Ms. Wang Lanying from Dazhou City loaned money to Wu Licui. The IOU slip was among the things the police took. Six officials from the Kaijiang County National Security Division and from the 610 Office ambushed Wang Lanying in the Tongzhou District, Dazhou City and arrested her on September 7, 2008. They took her to the Kaijiang County Detention Center and announced the arrest in December 2008. She is still in custody.
13. [Huaihua City, Hunan Province] Ms. Huang Baxiang Arrested
Huitong County 610 Office agents and armed police officers surrounded local resident Ms. Huang Baxiang's home the afternoon of July 6, 2009. Huang Baxiang refused to open the door. The police smashed her windows, forced their way inside and arrested her.
14. [Jilin Province] Sixty-four Practitioners Held at the Jilin Province Prison
Right now, 64 practitioners are incarcerated in the Jilin Province Prison. Brutal brainwashing sessions are held at Division 1 and Division 8. Every day, practitioners who refuse to renounce their belief are subjected to unimaginable abuse.
Ms. Xu Jingbo, her husband Yuan and his sister-in-law Sun Yuan were held at the Lishu County Detention Center before April 25, 2009.
15. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Sun Bo Arrested Again
Mr. Sun Bo, in his 30s, from the Gulou District, Nanjing City, talked to people about the importance of quitting the Communist Party the morning of July 16, 2009. Someone reported him to the police. The police arrested him later at his workplace and ransacked his home. He is now held at the Gulou District Detention Center.
Sun Bo had been arrested in October 2000 for appealing in Beijing and was taken to the Judong Forced Labor Camp in Jiangsu Province. He was arrested again at the end of 2006 and held at the Fangqiang Forced Labor Camp in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province for more than two years.

16. [Chengde City, Hebei Province] Mr. Liu Tianlai and Ms. Liu Guixiang Arrested
Plainclothes police officers arrested Mr. Liu Tianlai, a resident of Shuiquangou, Chengde City, on July 18, 2009 while he was having breakfast at a vendor's shop near his workplace. The secret agents ransacked his home and took personal belongings, including Falun Gong books.
They arrested Ms. Liu Guixiang from her home in Shenmiaogou, Chengde City on July 21, 2009.
17. [Qidong County, Hunan Province] Police Ransack Practitioners' Homes in the Middle of Night
Zou Wusheng from the Buyunqiao Town 610 Office in Qidong County led five police officers and ransacked numerous practitioners' homes in Qidong County late at night on July 20, 2009.
They rampaged through the homes of Ms. Tan Guiyuan and Ms. Xiao Fengxiu in Pingtang Village at 11:00 p.m. and confiscated Falun Gong books and pictures of Mr. Li Hongzhi.
They broke into Mr. Kuang Daijie's home in Niaotang Village at midnight and rummaged through the house for 30 minutes.
They took an MP3 player from Mr. Luo Xiaoxian's home in Duiji Village, Buyunqiao Town and arrested practitioner Cao from Chenglianxu Township in Qidong County.
18. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Youyi Road Police Precinct Officials Persecute Li Hengjie and Wife
Eight officers from the Youyi Police Precinct ransacked Mr. Li Hengjie's home at 8:00 p.m. on July 21, 2009. They took one copy of the Minghui Weekly newsletter, lyrics to a song a Falun Gong practitioner had composed, and a picture with of Mr. Li Hongzhi. They took Li Hengjie and his wife to the Youyi Police Station later that night and handcuffed and shackled the couple overnight. His wife was released the next day; Li Hengjie was taken to a detention center. His family was forbidden to see him.

19. [Dongliao County, Jilin Province] Mr. Wang Guirong and Wu Laoda Arrested
Officers from the Weijin Town Police Station arrested Mr. Wang Guirong and Wu Laoda from their home in Weijin Town, Dongliao County at 3:00 p.m. on July 27, 2009. The police also confiscated personal belongings.

20. [Lingbao City, Henan Province] Practitioners Sentenced to Prison
Right now, many practitioners are held in police custody in Lingbao City, Henan Province. It is learned that the following practitioners were sentenced to four years in prison: Mr. Zuo Xiaoguang, Ms. Wang Xiuqin, Ms. Tang Hongying, Mr. Han Zengqiang, Mr. Yan Yuexue, and Mr. Zhang Jinghe.
21. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Additional Information Regarding the Arrest of Ms. Wang Zhen
Someone reported Ms. Wang Zhen to the police at 4:00 p.m. on July 24, 2009 as she distributed Falun Gong flyers in the street. The police arrested and took her to the Guangwen Police Station, where they took the keys to her home from her purse at 6:00 p.m. and ransacked her home when no one was there.
22. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Lei Wen Arrested
Officials at the Guangdong Province Electric Power College called 42-year-old professor Lei Wen when he was off work, and told him to return to campus the morning of July 23, 2009. Officials from Tianhe District 610 Office and Tianhe District Police Department arrested and took him to an undisclosed location.
Approximately twenty practitioners were arrested in Guangzhou City in the month of July 2009.
23. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Fuqiang Tried While Being Held at the Dongling Detention Center

Officers from the Jianfeng Police Station in Yingkou City arrested Mr. Kan Yuehong from Yingkou City around July 17, 2009. He is held at the Yingkou City Custody Center as of now.

25. [Zhejiang Province] Seven Practitioners Sentenced to Prison
The police arrested 11 practitioners from Yuyao City and Cixi City in Zhejiang Province in June 2008. They inactivated a home-based Falun Dafa materials production center, confiscating several computers, printers and a large quantity of Falun Gong materials. They sent seven practitioners to the Ningbo City Detention Center and Yuyao City Detention Center.
The Yuyao City Court held a show trial in February 2009 that ended in haste and disgrace. A second trial, lasting a mere 20 minutes, was held on June 2, 2009. All seven practitioners were given heavy prison sentences. The practitioners appealed, but their petitions were rejected.
Thirty-five-year-old Mr. Liu Qingliang from Bagunliu Village, Guguantun Township, Dong'e County, Shandong Province was sentenced to 12 years in prison and is now held at the Zhejiang Province No. 4 Prison.
Forty-three-year-old Mr. Ma Jiahou from Zhougang Town, Cixi City, Zhejiang Province was sentenced to ten years in prison. Sixty-two-year-old Mr. Zheng Yongliang from Zhougang Town, Cixi City, Zhejiang Province, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison. Both practitioners are held at the Zhejiang Province No. 2 Prison.
Fifty-two-year-old Ms. Zheng Aiyin from Sujiayuan Village, Lizhou Street, Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province was sentenced to five-and-a-half years; 41-year-old Ms. Yao Hongwen from Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province was sentenced to three years in prison; 64-year-old Ms. Zheng Aidi from Shengyi Village, Fengshan Street, Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison; 64-year-old Ms. Wu Zhaodi from Zhougang Town, Cixi City, Zhejiang Province was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison. These four practitioners are currently held at the Zhejiang Province Women's Prison.

26. [Luyang Town, Liaoning Province] Police Arrest Practitioners and Ransack Homes
Five officers from the Luyang Town Police Station went to Ms. Ma Dongmei's home at 7:40 p.m. on July 21, 2009. When they saw no one was home they left and went to Mr. Jia Yufu's home. They took a photograph of Mr. Li Hongzhi and took Jia Yufu to a custody center.
Three officers from the Luyang Town Police Station pounded on the front door of Ms. Zhang Man's home at 8:30 p.m. on July 21, 2009. Zhang Man opened the door after 20 minutes of a stalemate. The police demanded that she sign a search warrant. Zhang Man refused. The persecutors demanded her family to sign it; they also said no. The police then tried to arrest Zhang Man but she managed to escape safely.
The police arrested Ms. Wang Zhen at 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2009 and held her at the Weifang Detention Center for three days. Her family went to Guangwen Police Station two days later and demanded her release. The police said they were going to detain Ms. Wang for a long time and tried to extort money from the family.

27. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Additional Information Regarding the Arrest of Certain Practitioners
Officers from the Nanguan District Police Department and the Shuguang Road Police Station arrested Ms. Yang Peixia, Ms. Xu Bohui, Ms. Song Guirong, and Ms. Zhang Yufan from their homes in Changchun City at 6:00 p.m. on January 18, 2007. They took the practitioners to the Shuguang Road Police Precinct and also confiscated Falun Gong books and materials. They took VCD player(s), one mobile phone and one pager from Xu Bohui's home. They took a picture of Mr. Li Hongzhi, copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and Falun Gong materials from Yang Peixia's home.
Yang Peixia was held overnight at the Shuguang Road Police Station and taken to the Changchun City No. 3 Detention Center the next day. She was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor and transported to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. She returned home in mid-July 2008.
Song Guirong was held overnight at the same police station before being taken to the Shuangyang Detention Center the next day where she was held for one month. She was eventually sentenced to one year of hard labor. Officials at the Changchun City Police Department extorted 10,000 yuan from her prior to her returning home on February 16, 2007. She has lived in great fear and under tremendous pressure after returning home. Ms. Song cannot take care of herself since suffering a stroke, presumably as a result of the persecution, which has caused losses in excess of 100,000 yuan for her and her family.
Zhang Yufan is in her late 70s. She was held overnight at that same police station and was sentenced to one year of hard labor, to be served outside the labor camp. She had a nervous breakdown and hasn't slept or eaten well for a long time. She suffers from the results of a stroke and cannot live independently.
Xu Bohui was held at the Changchun No. 3 Detention Center for one month and was taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp after being sentenced to one year of slave labor.
28. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Wang Hongting and Mr. Wang Shigui Arrested
Police arrested Mr. Wang Hongting from Xintaimen Town, Huludao City and Mr. Wang Shigui from Baimashi Township at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2009. Li Wei from the Xintaimen Police Station led four fellow officers who broke into the two practitioners' homes. They took photographs and blocked the door, to prevent the practitioners from leaving. They arrested Wang Hongting and Wang Shigui and took a tricycle and agricultural equipment. The practitioners' whereabouts are unknown.
