Please Help My Kind-hearted Stepmother
I am the stepdaughter of Wei Huirong. I lost my mother when I was nine, and my two brothers and I were brought up by my father and grandmother.
My father didn't want to re-marry, as he was afraid that his children would not be properly cared for. Our father works very hard, and if he had a companion like Wei Huirong beside him, his life would be better. So we persuaded him to get married.
Our stepmother's own children are grown up and have their own families. Soon after she married my father, my grandparents passed away. My second brother and I then both got married. She was always beside my father, accompanying him and creating a warm and harmonious family for us all. Although our family was not rich, we were very happy.
My stepmother suffered from severe stomach problems and lost a lot of weight. She went to many hospitals seeking treatment, and spent the money she earned on medical bills, but it was all to no avail. She often lost her temper because of her illness. Just when everyone at home was becoming very anxious about her situation, someone recommended that she practice Falun Gong, as it was said to be very effective in improving one's health and it didn't cost any money. My stepmother decided to give it a try. After practicing for a short period of time, her stomach problems disappeared and she was more energetic. She quit smoking and drinking, and became very kind and compassionate. The greatest change in her was that she treated us even better than before.
One day in 2006, my stepmother had an accident when she was working out in the fields, and broke one of her fingers very badly. When the hospital doctor saw her injury, he said that the finger could not be saved, and that she'd need a lot of medical treatment. My stepmother knew that because she was a practitioner, Master would protect her. She told the doctor to just stitch her wound and make a splint for the broken bone. Before the doctor would treat her, he insisted that she have an injection and take medication, but she refused. Both my parents then had to sign an agreement stating that the hospital would not be held responsible if anything went wrong. My stepmother was very calm when she returned home and kept assuring us that she would be all right. Sure enough, by the third day, she resumed her work on the farm, and within two weeks she went to the village clinic to have the stitches removed. The doctor was very surprised at her miraculous recovery. People in the village knew about the incident and commented how great Master Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong are.
My stepmother takes good care of the whole family. My sister-in-law left home in 2007, and my brother has to work in the city every day, including holidays. He has two children, and my stepmother took the responsibility of looking after them. My second brother lives 12 kilometers away and my stepmother, and always finds time to visit him and help out, taking fruit and vegetables she has grown for them. She treated me and my children exceptionally well. We are all truly affectionate and respectful to her, and that comes from the bottom of our hearts.
I was afraid that my stepmother would be affected by the CCP's suppression of Falun Gong, and asked her to stop practicing on many occasions. However, I personally witnessed the changes in her mind and body after practicing, and felt that it was not right to ask her to stop. There were too many facts testifying to the benefits of the practice. It is not illegal or wrong to practice and we never thought that she would end up in prison. I heard that she was arrested for giving out leaflets informing people of the facts about Falun Gong. China has laws giving its citizens the right to freedom of belief and speech. My stepmother has not done anything against the law.
My siblings and I are very worried, as we have our own families to look after, and there is no one to take care of my father. His physical condition is not good. My stepmother used to do all of the duties on the farm, but now we have to pay someone to do this. We villagers depend on the farm to earn a living, and we are now encountering financial difficulties.
Please help secure my stepmother's release. Our family needs her. Please speak a word for justice, and lend a helping hand. Help my kind-hearted stepmother.
Yin Yan, the stepdaughter of Ms. Wei Huirong.
