(Minghui.org) My name is Liu Xiaoming. I am from Tiantaishan in Lianqiao Township, Shaodong County, Hunan Province. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, and tried many different types of treatment but to no avail. I then decided to try Falun Gong. I was saved by Master and was given a second life. Later I was severely persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and have been repeatedly arrested, detained, put through brainwashing sessions, sentenced to forced labor and been tortured. This left me with numerous physical injuries and mental disabilities. My children, friends and relatives have also been implicated.
I was born in September 1962 and have always been very weak. I used to suffer from many illnesses, including insomnia. I often lost consciousness and was diagnosed with rectal cancer in May 2003. After six months of treatment at a hospital in the provincial capital and spending all the money I had saved working, my health did not improve. It only worsened. I felt so lonely and helpless at the time. I was very far from home and did not have a permanent place to live. Despite being ill, I still had to work and send money home to pay for my children's school tuition. I had given up on all of the medical treatments and was just waiting to die.
Just when I had lost all hope in life, a kind-hearted person told me that practicing Falun Gong would heal my illnesses. I was very skeptical about this because I had heard the CCP's lies about Falun Gong, so I didn't expect much. I agreed to read the book first, so the woman loaned me a copy of Zhuan Falun. When I opened the book for the first time I saw Master's picture. Master looked so kind, which instantly made me feel very close to him. The content of the book teaches people to be good, to cultivate their moral character and to become genuinely good people by strictly following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
At the time, I was filled with self pity and often thought that life was unfair. In the book I found answers to questions I had tried to figure out and wished to understand, but could never answer. Compassionate Master started to take care of me, even though my enlightenment quality was very poor. I held on to the mentality of healing illnesses and only read parts of the book that I thought relevant. After doing the exercises for only a few hours, I started to have physical reactions and diarrhea. My health started to improve right away. My illnesses had taken me to the verge of death, but suddenly I was given a second life. I decided to solidly cultivate in Dafa and follow Master.
I worked as a housemaid for Professor Tang in 2005, at the Central South University of Forestry and Technology (CSUFT). While on my way to the Jingwanzi Market on the afternoon of September 29, 2005, I spoke to people about Falun Gong and handed out truth clarification materials to passersby. I was reported to the police, and officers from the Jingwanzi Police Station (now Yuhuating Police Station) arrested me and confiscated my personal belongings, including some cash. I was handcuffed to the metal gate of the police station and then taken to the Changsha City Detention Center that night.
Two male guards at the detention center had criminal inmates take turns to beat me. I then went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. At that time, I was having my menstrual period and couldn't afford the sanitary napkins at the detention center. Blood was dripping onto my feet, but this did not stop them from beating me. A young male officer, who I had never seen before, later bought me some sanitary napkins.
I was released 15 days later. I was near death and was penniless. The day was cold and rainy with strong winds. People on the street were wearing sweaters and thick pants, but I was still wearing the short sleeve shirt and skirt that I wore on the day I was arrested. I had not taken a shower or changed my clothes in two weeks and was covered in filth and blood stains. I even had to beg for money for the bus fare. People on the street must have mistaken me for being mentally ill when I approached them. I told them that I had been locked up in the detention center for following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and trying to be a good person. A nice person eventually gave me some food and two yuan for the bus fare.
Once I was back at professor Tang's home, I was told that they thought I was missing and had asked my family and friends about my whereabouts. Eventually, they heard that I had been arrested but had no idea where I was being detained.
In April 2006, I went with professor Tang to the CSUFT school infirmary for him to be administered with an IV. I read my Dafa book while I was waiting, and was reported to the school security by a middle-aged female doctor. I was arrested by officers from the school security, local 610 Office and Xinkaipu Police Station. Professor Tang pleaded with them to release me, but I was forcibly taken to professor Tang's home. The officers thoroughly searched my room and confiscated my belongings, including my Dafa books, MP3 player for playing the exercise music and more than 1,000 yuan in cash. I had been saving the money for more than six months and it was all I had. I was going to use it to pay for my children's school tuition fees.
I was taken to Changsha Detention Center and was sentenced to one year of forced labor in the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City two weeks later. On the way to the labor camp, a male officer punched me very hard in the temple. I was assigned to the 1st Team of Group No. 7 at the camp, and because I refused to renounce my belief or cooperate with the guards, several of them including He Yulian, Tang Luyun, Long Liyun and Huang Liping made the criminal inmates, including Liu Xiaoling from Changsha City, Gao Meizi, Zhou Liyan from Hengyang City, Huang Jumei from Shaodong County and Liu Xiaohong from Yueyang City take turns to monitor me 24 hours a day.
The guards put me through three rounds of intense brainwashing in an attempt to get me to renounce my belief. I was forced to stand all night and was not allowed to use the bathroom. After I stood continuously for seven days, and when my feet became too swollen to stand any longer, the inmates took turns holding me up by the shoulders, forcing me to stand even longer. Whenever I moved even slightly, I was beaten and kicked. My ankles were badly bruised and I couldn't walk.
The conditions in 1st Team were terrible and I was often bitten by bugs and mosquitoes. I was also beaten by the criminal inmates, especially around my temples. This way the beatings were not visible even if I bled from the eyes. Filthy rags and dirty socks were stuffed into my mouth and duct tape was wrapped around my head so that I couldn't utter a sound while being beaten or kicked. A lot of my hair was pulled out and stuck to the tape. I was forced to squat with my feet together and my arms extended out in front of me. I had to stay in this position and was not allowed to move or lean against the wall. If I moved just slightly, I would be severely beaten.
I was not allowed to go to bed until after 4 a.m. and slept for less than two hours. My face was covered with bruises and swollen to the point that I could hardly open my eyes or see things clearly. Inmates rubbed stinging medicated oils on my eyes, and my head was held down in a wash basin full of water until I couldn't breathe. When I lost consciousness, they held my hand and used it to sign a guarantee statement that had been prepared beforehand. I had so much regret when I regained consciousness and realized that I had signed the statement. I immediately wrote a solemn declaration announcing that everything I had signed was invalid and submitted this to guard Tang Luyun.
As I stated that I would continue to practice Falun Gong in my solemn declaration, I was transferred to the 2nd Team. I was forced to stand by a wall for 14 days straight, excluding time for meals and use of the bathroom. The guards and inmates wrote Master's name on the floor around me, so if I moved a little bit I would step on Master's name. I'm not sure what they put in my food, but my whole body became numb after I ate it. I was muddle-headed all day and my vision was blurry. My legs became so swollen and stiff. They took turns holding me up by the shoulders to make sure I stayed standing. My ankles were covered with bruises from being kicked. When the inmates who were assigned to monitor me eventually got tired, they used a stick, slightly thicker than a thumb, and held it up against my vagina. If I became unstable or moved a little bit, the stick would poke into my vagina. I don't remember how long this went on for, but the guards and inmates only gave up when they couldn't last any longer.
I was released in May 2007, and only then did I find out that my mother-in-law had passed away at the end of 2006. My mother passed away around April, 2007 and Professor Tang had also passed away during this time.
I went back to Shaodong County in March 2008, and stayed with my elder brother's family. I was reported to the police while distributing copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and was arrested by officers from Lianqiao Police Station. They confiscated my personal belongings, which included my clothes and 150 yuan in cash, which was all I had. The next day, I was taken to the Shaodong Detention Center, where I was severely beaten by the inmates. When I went on a hunger strike, I was pinned to the ground by more than a dozen men, before being force fed by a doctor named Li. A bamboo stick that had been sharpened with a knife was inserted into my mouth. The stick cut my gums and made them bleed profusely. A few months later, I still had an infection and pus in my mouth. When I didn't cooperate with the guards to have my photograph taken, a tall male guard dragged me out of the cell. Just as I regained my balance, he kicked me so hard from behind that I fell forward. Two weeks later, I was sentenced to a year and half in Baimalong Forced Labor Camp again.
This time I was held in the 3rd Team of Group No. 7 in the camp. I was subjected to many cruel torture methods because I did not cooperate with the guards and refused to renounce my belief. Guards Shi Yongqing and Zhu Jinzi instigated more than 10 inmates, including Peng Ying from Yueyang City, Chen Cong, Li Jing from Zhuzhou City, Wu Haidi, Yang Suying, Chen Huizhen, Yang Li from Shaoyang City and Deng Zhi, to take turns to punch and kick me. I was also frequently beaten in the restrooms.
In the cold winter months from November 2008 to February 2009, the temperatures were often below freezing. During the day, I had to stand in strenuous positions and at night I was forced to stand on the cold concrete floor with my bare feet. One time, I was stripped naked and many words slandering Dafa and Master were written on my body. Then I was pushed from cell to cell to show the other inmates. I was insulted every day and tortured by more than 10 inmates that were assigned to monitor me. One time, they turned a small stool over and made me stand on the feet of the stool. I was not allowed to move, otherwise I would be beaten.
Sometimes the guards would put me in a straitjacket with only my mouth and nose uncovered. My mouth was then sealed with tape and a helmet was put on my head. A metal bucket was then put over the helmet and my arms and legs were tied to two separate beds. When the beds were pulled away from each other, my entire body was stretched. They would then beat me and hit the bucket with sticks and clubs in an attempt to force me to renounce my belief. These sessions would last from early in the morning until the evening, and I was only let down after I lost consciousness. I don't remember how many times I was put in a canvas straitjacket. I still suffer from dizziness and tinnitus, and have scars on my wrists from being tied up. To this day, I still have blurry vision.
I went back to my elder brother's home in September 2009 after I was released. Officers from Lianqiao Police Station and the 610 Office came to harass and threaten me. They told me not to leave home at any time. About two weeks later, I went to the Changsha Road and Bridge Corporation to visit my younger brother. Liu Shuyue, the head of Tiantaishan Village, and another man knocked on the door. They falsely told me that my elder brother was in critical condition and asked me to go home immediately. Before I realized what was going on, five officers rushed in and carried me to a police car. I was taken to Shaoyang City and put through two weeks of brainwashing before I was released.
