Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Han Zhongcui was illegally arrested and has been held in Jiuzhou No. 1 Detention Center in Lanzhou City, for over ten months. Her family visitation rights have been denied. Her family has not seen her yet and have not been given any information about her.
In mid-April, her family again went to visit her, but they were told that they could leave things for her, but they were not allowed to see her. Her family is from Jingyuan, so it is very difficult for them to travel to Lanzhou with their limited income.
The family went to Lanzhou Domestic Security railroad residential committee, and spoke to the secretary of the residential committee Zhao Zhihong, and Chen Zhikai from Domestic Security. They both refused to discuss Han Zhongcui's case and Chen Zhikai rudely pushed the family out the door. They also took photos of the family, which worried them more.
On April 24, 2013, someone from the detention center reported that Han Zhongcui had not been eating for a long time and she has become very thin and weak, with high blood pressure.
In July of 2012 when Han Zhongcui was arrested, her mother was in her eighties and has worried herself sick. Her life has become very hard now as her mentally retarded grandson has no one else to care for him.
Ms. Han Zhongcui is 54 years old and is a staff member in Chengguan District Railroad residential committee. She disappeared last year in July of 2012. One month later, her family came to visit her in Lanzhou and they were shocked as her home was in an unusual mess, with moldy food on the kitchen table, and many personal items missing. It looked like she was taken away while preparing a meal.
In October, after much investigation, her family finally found that she was held in Jiuzhou No. 1 Detention Center and had been held there for the last ten months.
On January 30, 2013, her family went to the detention center, and they were not allowed to see Ms. Han.
Her family is extremely worried for her and on February 2, her family went to Railroad Residential Committee, and were interrogated by director Ma who told them Han Zhongcui was going to be sentenced. Family members went to find Chen Zhikai from Chengguan District Domestic Security, and Chen lied that he does not handle cases like that and pushed them back out of the door.
Ms. Han's younger son is 23 years old, but his mental age is only that of a five-year-old and he cannot take care of himself. Her husband Zhang Zhifu has not taken care of them for years. Ms. Han had been living with her son in a one bedroom place. The door and windows are all broken and there is no heat. After Ms. Han was arrested, her husband took the child back to his grandmother who is very sick herself. Ms. Han's son is very confused and cries daily for his mother.
A family member went to Ms. Han's work place and asked her whereabouts, and he was told to see Chen Zhikai from Domestic Security, or to find Ms. Han's husband, but the husband refused to answer the phone.
The detention center refuses to allow Ms. Han's family member to visit her, and instead they could only buy things from the detention center to leave for her. A family member learned that Ms. Han was held in Taoshuping Detention Center, and that she was brutally beaten because she refused to wear a prisoner's uniform. Later the family learned that her “case” has already reached the court and she is now facing trial.
Ms. Han Zhongcui has been persecuted numerous times over the years by the CCP, which has decimated the family, and made her life difficult. Her salary has been suspended since September 2002. A family member from another state has been supporting her and her son.
At this time there are several Falun Gong practitioners held in Jiuzhou Detention Center: they are Han Zhongcui, Lu Yueling, Chen Jie, and Sheng Chunmei. They are forced to do slave labor daily and are not allowed to sleep until they finish the assignment. They have to get up at 4 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m., dinner at 5 p.m., and resume work until 9-10 p.m. Ms. Han started a hunger strike against the persecution and slave labor, and it was reported that she has become very weak physically.
