(Minghui.org) Ms. Han Zhongcui, a Chinese civil servant and mother of a mentally disabled son, has been subjected to severe persecution by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999, simply because she upholds her right to practice Falun Gong. Several weeks ago, Ms. Han's family learned that she was secretly sentenced to three years in prison.
When Ms. Han's family went to the Lanzhou No. 1 Detention Center on June 28, 2013, and asked to see her, the guard told them that they'd just transferred her to Gansu Women's Prison. It was only the day before that they'd learned she'd been secretly sentenced to three years in prison.
Ms. Han was a civil servant who worked for the local community management committee at the Lanzhou City Railway Station in the Chengguan District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. She has been persecuted repeatedly by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since 1999, due to her firm belief in Falun Gong.
In 2002, Ms. Han was held for a long time in Gongjiawang Brainwashing Center, where she was placed in solitary confinement, had unknown drugs put in her food, and was injected with unknown drugs. She was deprived of drinking water and toilet use and was subjected to long-term sleep deprivation.
Ms. Han had to sleep on the concrete floor of the solitary cell, without any heat for an entire winter. She was hung up by her handcuffed arms, and her left arm was dislocated. The nerves in her right hand were damaged and one hand was fractured. Her back was injured severely and she could not straighten her back. When she was sent to Lanzhou Military Hospital for treatment, they stated that they could not do anything to help her since the nerve was damaged.
Ms. Han Zhongcui has a 23-year-old son who is mentally challenged. His IQ is that of a 5-year-old child, so he cannot take care of himself and must rely on his mother. Ms. Han's husband, Zhang Zhifu, who worked at an organization that takes care of elderly Party members in Guangwumenshi, has not provided for his wife and son for a number of years. Ms. Han lives with her son in a poverty-stricken district, in a one-bedroom unit with the door and windows broken and no heating. Under orders from higher authorities, Ms. Han's employer has suspended her salary since September 2003. Consequently, she and her son have had to rely completely on their relatives for financial support.
In July 2012, officers from the Chengguan District 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division, along with staff from Ms. Han's workplace, arrested Ms. Han at home and took her to the Jiuzhou No. 1 Detention Center in Lanzhou City. On April 24, 2013, information from someone just released from the detention center revealed that Ms. Han had not been eating for a long time, had lost a lot of weight, and her blood pressure was high.
In June 2013, Ms. Han's family went to see 610 Office director Gao Lina many times and requested Ms. Han's release, so that she could take care of her elderly mother and son, who need her desperately. They also stated that her health had deteriorated in detention. Gao denied that Ms. Han's health was not good and then attempted to interrogate her family members and threatened to arrest them as well. One of her relatives said, “If Han Zhongcui were your sister, what would you do?” Gao told the family to talk to the police department, but the staff there stated that they took orders only from the 610 Office.
On June 21, Ms. Han's family received a note from the detention center, ostensibly from Ms. Han, stating, “I already give away all my belongings. Do not buy anything for me anymore.” A relative went to the detention center and asked what was going on. Director Liu Ping stated that Ms. Han was not eating, but they would try other ways to feed her. When her family stated that she was innocent of any crime and should be released, Liu interrupted them and said that they needed to go to the court.
Ms. Han's family has been to the Chengguan District Court many times, but Liu Dongyu from the court refused to see them and stated that the court was abiding by the law. On June 28 he told the family to go see her.
On June 27, Ms. Han's family went to the court again to see Liu, but he refused to admit them and had the clerk give them a notification, stating, “Sentenced to three years.” The clerk tried to force her family to sign the paper. When her family refused, the clerk simply signed a family member's name on the paper.
When Ms. Han's family tried to visit her on June 28, the guard told them that she had been sent to Gansu Women's Prison.
Ms. Han's family went to the prison, where the guard told them that she had arrived but was not in a cell yet. When they provided documentation and asked to see her, the guard denied the visit and told them that it was the wrong documentation. Her family realized that the court had deceived them, and when they went to the court to get the necessary documentation, the court clerk, Liu Dongyu, refused to help them.
