(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Shuqin (陈淑琴), a Falun Gong practitioner and physician in Ningxia Province, was arrested in December 2009 and sentenced to four years in prison.
At multiple detention centers and in Yinchuan Women's Prison, Ms. Chen was tortured, including being brutally beaten and shocked with electric batons.
Ms. Chen was released in October 2013, but even though it has been a year since her release, she still can't shake her fear.
Detention Centers
Ms. Chen Shuqin, 50, is from Delong County, Guyuan City, Ningxia Autonomous Region (AR). She is a well-known doctor at the Delong County Hospital. She has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party for a number of years because she practices Falun Gong.
In December 2009, Ms. Chen went to Dian'an Township in Delong County to talk to people about Falun Gong and the persecution. She was reported and arrested by officers from the Dian'an Township Police Station.
Officers from the Delong County 610 Office and the Chengguan Police Station ransacked her house and confiscated many of her personal belongings.
Ms. Chen was taken to the Guyuan City Detention Center. Because she refused to admit to any wrongdoing she was transferred to a hidden place in the detention center. The guards forced her to wear heavy handcuffs generally used only for death row prisoners.
Later, Ms. Chen was taken to the Kongtong Detention Center in Pingliang City, Ganshu Provinc. She was tortured by the guards, as well as by Zhu Guanjun, chief of the detention center, and political head Chen Zhen. On one occasion, Ms. Chen was forced to sit on the Tiger Bench for 26 days without food and without use of a toilet.
To avoid being observed, Zhu Guanjun moved Ms. Chen to a cell without a camera where he beat her with a belt. Her injuries from the beating took months to heal.
Yinchuan Women's Prison
The Delong County Court illegally sentenced Ms. Chen to prison in April 2010. She was taken to the Yinchuan Women's Prison.
At the Yinchuan Women's Prison, Falun Gong practitioners are assigned a “helper” who monitors them constantly and who tries to force practitioners to renounce their belief. Enticed with reduced prison terms, the “helpers” often abuse and even torture practitioners in an attempt to force them to “transform.”
Ms. Chen was brutally tortured, including being forced to sit on a small stool for prolonged periods, being shocked on the face and mouth with an electric baton and being forced to stand still for long periods without restroom use. She almost drowned when several “helpers” forced her head into a sink full of water.
In addition to physical torture, Ms. Chen was tormented by being forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong, and was pressured to write a guarantee statement.
When inmates Jin Yan and Wang Xuefeng read articles out loud slandering Falun Gong, Ms. Chen tried to stop them. The two inmates beat her, threw her to the ground and stomped on her. Fan (surname), the chief of the prison's education department, was present but did nothing to stop the abuse.
Ms. Chen was released in October 2013. She is still traumatized by her horrific experiences and lives in fear, even though a year has passed since her release.
