1. The Grape Farmer
Late in the fall of 2013, I had just been talking about Falun Gong to two farmers at the early morning market when I heard a familiar voice call out, “Hey, come and have a taste of my just-picked grapes.” I turned and saw that it was somebody I had spoken to the year before.
I went over to him and said, “Your bunches of grapes are so large and so black. They must be the best in the market. What’s your secret?” He replied, “The man you just gave an amulet to is my brother.” Then he pulled out an old worn amulet from his pocket and said, “This Falun Gong amulet that you gave me has protected me.” People nearby stopped to listen.
He smiled before he began to tell his story to everyone that had gathered around. “Last fall, this guy told me the real story behind the persecution of Falun Gong and persuaded me to quit the Party and its affiliated organizations. He also gave me an amulet. The words on it told me to say ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good’ sincerely, from my heart, and that these words would protect me from danger. So I memorized those nine words, and, believing this amulet was precious, I put it in my inner pocket. It’s been with me ever since, wherever I go. Since then, I have felt light and full of energy. Everything in my life has been going very well. But the most amazing thing is that this amulet actually saved my life.
“Last spring I had just finished selling my vegetables in the morning market, so I hopped on my tricycle, eager to get home. There were only a few cars on the road. I was thinking of the work I would need to do when, all of a sudden, I heard a motorcycle beeping behind me, and before I realized what had happened, my tricycle and I had tumbled over to the side of the road, just a few inches from a deep ditch. I steadied myself, sat up, patted my head, felt my arms and legs. Everything seemed fine. Nothing hurt and nothing was broken. I examined my tricycle. There was only a long scratch near the left wheel. I suddenly understood: It was the amulet that saved my life.
“It was then that I noticed a man about 20 years old standing in the middle of the road, looking at me. He looked panic-stricken. I thought to myself, ‘He is younger than my son; I can’t give him a hard time.’ I smiled and said, ‘Don’t worry. I’m not hurt. In the future, don’t ride so fast on your motorcycle, and pay attention to safety. Go home now. Don’t worry your parents.’ The young man was so grateful, he gave me a deep bow, said, ‘Thank you,’ and rode away.
“After that, I truly understood the importance of the amulet and those nine words. I recite them at home, at work, during lunch breaks, whenever, and wherever. Sometimes I even say them out loud. I think my grapes also heard the words and understood. That’s why they grow so well.
“I only had a little formal education and don’t have any special skills. I just do routine fertilizing, weeding, and watering. I’m sure it's because I love to recite the nine words in a loud voice when I’m working in the field that all my grapes are plump and juicy and much better than in previous years. In a 10-mile radius, nobody produced such good fruit. I raised the price this year, but people are still buying. In fact, I’m earning more than I did last year.”
Turning to and looking at me, he said, “Falun Gong has brought me blessings and I thank you.” I told him, “Don’t thank me. You should thank Master.” He said, “I sincerely thank Falun Gong’s Master!”
2. The Tofu Makers
In 2008, I became acquainted with a middle-aged couple who had moved to my neighborhood from Heilongjiang. The husband is a simple but honest man; the wife is cheerful and enthusiastic. They opened a tofu store in their house. Their tofu was good, and I became a frequent customer.
One day, I went to buy tofu. The wife complained that she felt dizzy and had back pain. I gave her a Falun Gong amulet and told her, “If you believe what the words say, you will be fine.” She took the amulet and read out loud: "Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good."
In an instant, she smiled and said, “Hey, it really works.”
A few days later when I showed up, she greeted me with enthusiasm and asked me to talk to her daughter and son-in-law about Falun Gong and help them renounce the CCP and withdraw from the Party. They listened and quickly agreed. I then gave them each an amulet.
One day, the daughter was minding the store. I asked about her mother. She told me her grandmother was in the hospital, so the mother went to take care of her. I said, “Take this amulet and have your grandmother wear it and recite, ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.’" The daughter followed my recommendation. In a week, the grandmother was discharged.
The couple’s tofu store got more and more popular. Many people would buy tofu from them exclusively. Sometimes, when elderly people would forget to bring money, they would smile and say, “Don’t worry. Take the tofu first.” When people praised them for being good, the wife would respond, “It’s because of Falun Gong.”
Then, she would add, “Falun Gong people are much better. They use their own money to make amulets to give people blessings. See, I have an amulet here. If you believe in honesty and goodness, you will be blessed.”
With the money they made from the tofu store, they built a new house and raised more than 30 pigs. More than 20 of her relatives came to help out. I told them about Falun Gong, helped them withdraw from the Party, and gave them amulets.
When customers praised them, the couple often explained that they had been blessed by Falun Gong.
