(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Yulan's husband and daughter were busy at home, preparing for her return, after four years of unjustified imprisonment for believing in Falun Gong.
Only five days before the big day of their reunion, they received the most disheartening news, that Ms. Zhu had passed away in prison on April 5, 2015. She was 69.
Ms. Zhu's daughter rushed to Liaoning Women's Prison – a place notorious for torturing Falun Gong practitioners, and where many have been persecuted to death for persisting in their beliefs.
The daughter demanded that the prison provide video footage of her mother before she passed away. Her request was denied. They only showed her footage of her mother coming out of the bathroom, clutching her stomach. Prison officials claimed that she had passed away from a heart attack.
Unable to find more clues about her mother's mysterious death, the daughter returned home, only to discover that she and her father were being closely monitored by authorities. They soon lost contact with the outside world.
According to an insider, the prison offered them tens of thousands of yuan to settle the issue privately.
Ms. Zhu's latest imprisonment followed her fifth arrest on April 11, 2011. Her first four arrests took place between 1999 and 2002. She was twice given forced labor terms and subjected to various forms of torture during each detention period. The “crime” that led to the repeated arrests was her refusal to renounce her belief in Falun Gong.
