(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Lianxiang from Tangshan City, Hebei Province was sentenced to one-and-a-half years last November for her belief in Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.
Tangshan City Intermediate Court issued a decision this February to uphold the 57-year-old's original verdict without holding a hearing.
Ms. Wang was cooking at home on March 13, 2014 when a group of officers broke into her home and ransacked it. They confiscated many of her personal belongings, including 1,000 Yuan in cash, and took her to Tangshan City No.1 Detention center, where she remained until her transfer to prison one year later.
The local procuratorate returned her case to the police twice, citing insufficient evidence. When the police tried a third time on August 27, however, the procuratorate decided to accept the case and later forwarded it to Lunan Court on October 11.
Only five family members were allowed at the trial of Ms. Wang on November 3, and they saw that she could barely talk.
Lunan Court notified the family on November 19 that Ms. Wang was given one and a half years. Her family immediately appealed to Tangshan City Intermediate Court and demanded that she be released.
The higher court announced on February 4 this year that it decided to uphold Ms. Wang's original sentence.
Having witnessed her worrisome condition at the trial, Ms. Wang's loved ones became even more concerned now that she has been transferred to Shijiazhuang Women's Prison on March 16.
