(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Guiyue, from Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested on May 16, 2015 at a private residence in Jiamusi City, where she worked as a live-in caregiver for an elderly woman.
The police searched the 44-year-old woman's room and confiscated her three laptop computers, Falun Gong books, cash, and other personal belongings.
Ms. Li's only “crime” was practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party. It remains to be investigated where she is being held.
Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Li was arrested three times for refusing to give up her spiritual belief. She was forced to live away from home in 2011 to avoid police harassment, only to be arrested again this May.
Repeated Arrests in the Past
Ms. Li had suffered from tuberculosis since she was an elementary school student. As she grew older, she developed another symptom, for which doctors couldn't diagnose a cause. She had difficulty breathing during the first half of the night, but the symptom would disappear after around 3:00 a.m. every day.
She struggled to live a normal life, and was elated to see her symptoms disappear after she started practicing Falun Gong in 1996.
Having regained a new lease on life from Falun Gong, Ms. Li was determined to seek justice for the practice and its founder when the Chinese regime began the persecution in 1999.
Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong for the first time on May 8, 2000. She was arrested and brutally beaten in the basement of the Qianmen Police Station in Beijing. Her buttocks were badly injured and later festered. The wounds didn't heal until several months later.
She was later taken back to her hometown and held at the Yilan County Detention Center for 15 days, and forced to pay 1,000 yuan in cash as a condition for her release.
Ms. Li went to Beijing again in the winter of 2000. This time she was arrested and subjected to one year of forced labor. She developed scabies during her incarceration at the notorious Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, and didn't fully recover until two years after being released.
Ms. Li was arrested for the third time on April 7, 2010. Officer Zhang Yingduo grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall. She became disorientated, and her nose bled profusely. She was held at the Yilan County Detention Center for 15 days, and extorted of 1,000 yuan.
Ms. Li was forced to live away from home after the police ransacked her house on November 14, 2011 and confiscated her Falun Gong books, MP3 audio player, and other personal belongings.
The police raided her home again on March 26, 2012, traumatizing her ill father, whose condition worsened afterwards.
Family and Supporters Sad to See Her in Detention Again
Ms. Li's family and supporters couldn't understand why she was being detained again simply for her belief in Falun Gong.
There was once a three-year-period during which her village had more than 50 arson fires, reportedly caused by villagers who were not happy with the village official election result. When the fires first started, the village broadcaster called for the CCP members to come forward to put out the fire. As time went on, fewer and fewer were willing to help.
Ms. Li was always there to lend a hand though. In the end, the broadcaster shouted from the loudspeaker, “Falun Gong practitioner, please come and put out the fire!”
Ms. Li had gained respect from fellow villagers, but is still languishing in detention without having committed a crime.
