(Minghui.org) I have been retired for years, but the local police recently ordered my former employer to put me under round the clock surveillance in a hotel for about ten days. They'd received a tip that I was going to organize local Falun Gong practitioners to crash an important international meeting to be held in my city.
I protested against the baseless allegation, as practitioners only strive to live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The police wouldn’t listen and I was thus confined to this hotel.
Many of my previous coworkers who were assigned to watch me had heard me talk about Falun Gong in the past but were forced to follow the order from their superiors. I took advantage of this opportunity to clarify the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong in-depth to everyone I encountered during the whole ordeal.
Targeted for Suing Jiang
In December 2015, the captain and several officers from the domestic security team of the local police came to my home and brought a dossier filled with the criminal complaints that I had filed against the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) head, Jiang Zemin. The captain questioned me about it and I confirmed that I indeed was the one who had filed the suit.
A few days later, the same officers came again with Cailing, the deputy chief of the bureau where I used to work and had retired from. One of the officers pressured me to sign an affidavit to deny any involvement in the lawsuit.
Because I refused and started to talk about how I benefited from practicing Falun Gong, the captain announced that, following orders from his superiors, he was putting me under surveillance 24/7 until a high level international conference being held in the capital city of Henan Province concluded some ten days later. The surveillance was to be carried out by my former employer in a hotel.
Personal Accounts Touch Coworkers
Nearly 30 employees from where I worked were assigned to take turns watching me in a hotel room. I started to chat with them about Falun Gong and the persecution. Depending on the situation and their previous experience, sometimes I would bring up the persecution first; sometimes I would start with the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolation; sometimes I would directly talk about the thousands of lawsuits being filed against Jiang Zemin.
Most people were interested in and touched by my personal accounts. As I described how the police tortured Falun Gong practitioners in the labor camp, some would tell me, while holding back their tears, “It is unbelievably brutal. If you, whom I trust, hadn’t told me, I wouldn't believe such things could be happening right now. Such horrible forms of torture, like roping and punitive force-feeding! The CCP does not treat practitioners like human beings. What's wrong with practicing Falun Gong? In fact, Falun Gong practitioners are the most honest and trustworthy people I have ever met.”
One of my previous coworkers, Mr. Hu, was intrigued by what I had to say and would volunteer to take extra shifts in the hotel with me. He was a part time writer, and some of his articles had been published. He told me, “Your experience would make a great story. I will start writing it up. Whenever conditions permit, I will get it published. The persecution is truly beyond imagination. Falun Gong and its practitioners are extraordinary. Falun Gong practitioners are the hope of our society.”
I used to be recognized as a model employee annually at work. One year my employer was told that only one employee could get a raise, and I was naturally the chosen one. A coworker, Cuiying, who had to support a poor family and had a lot of hardships, approached me and pleaded with me to let her have the raise. I agreed without even thinking about it. That astounded everyone at work.
I did not see Cuiying among the coworkers assigned to watch me and was told that she was having surgery in Beijing. I called her and told her to sincerely recite, “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” The next day her mother came with gifts to visit me in the hotel and said, “Cuiying insisted on my visiting you. You are a good person. Falun Gong practitioners are good people. Our whole family is grateful to you. We all support you suing Jiang Zemin.”
Department Head Convinced to Stop Recruiting Members for the Party
One day the bureau chief came to visit me in the hotel. After exchanging pleasantries, I asked him if he had been recruiting for the Party. He argued, “Yes, but I never pressured your daughter to join.” I then told him, “Everyone's life should be treasured. You know the CCP is bad and you have quit yourself. So how can you still keep asking others to join? Aren't you destroying them by doing that?”
He appeared taken aback at what I said and remained quiet for some time before saying, “The local CCP committee has assigned each bureau a quota to recruit new members. The pressure to meet the quota is intense. But you are absolutely right. The CCP's days are numbered. I won't recruit anyone against my conscience in the future.”
Meeting People in a Park
After a few days of talking to coworkers in the hotel room, I decided that I should go out to meet more people. A friend, who had previously heard about and was sympathetic to Falun Gong, was happy to drive me to the nearby park.
There I met an elderly woman who confided to me that she had lost all hope and was extremely worried about her young son, who was a jobless drug addict and frequently asked her for money. I sympathized with her and told her that I had met and helped many drug addicts in the labor camp by teaching them to practice Falun Gong.
I told her that the reason society’s morals were sliding down so quickly was because our traditional Chinese culture had been systematically destroyed by the CCP, forcing people to give up their beliefs in divine beings and their sense of morality. In the end she said, “For some reason I just wanted to come to the park today. Now I know why. It must be an arrangement for you to help me.”
Later I met a man in his 60s who had been a low ranking military officer. He was ordered to lead his soldiers to open fire on the students at the time of the Tiananmen Square massacre. Because he resisted the order, his superior shot him in the back.
After he recovered, he was dishonorably discharged from the CCP military and was ineligible for a pension. Not only that, the military authorities threatened him not to say a word about what had happened. He said, “After chatting with you, I am now clear that the CCP is on the verge of disintegration. I do not believe in the CCP. I have seen Falun Gong materials before and I know Falun Gong is good. Yet I have never had the opportunity to quit. Can you please help me do it?”
Time seemed to fly and the surveillance ended. From this experience, I can tell that it has become harder and harder for the evil to carry on the persecution and, at the same time, it is easier than ever before to clarify the truth.
