(Minghui.org) A woman from Henan Province was recently sentenced to three years in prison for talking to people about her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body meditative practice persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhao Yuxia was reported to the police and then arrested on March 8, 2018, while talking to people about Falun Gong. She refused to tell the police her name but was then recognized by the staff at the detention center, where she had been held before, also because of her faith.
The head of Xinxiang City Domestic Security Division, Chang Guangjie led a group officers to ransack her home on the evening of her arrest. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and other related materials. She was then transferred to Xinxiang City Detention Center.
The police soon submitted her case to the Hongqi District Procuratorate, which forwarded her case to the Hongqi District Court.
The court held a hearing on September 12, 2018. Her lawyer delivered a not-guilty defense for her, maintaining that she had broken no laws by employing her constitutional rights to freedom of belief and speech.
She filed an appeal upon receiving the verdict and three-year prison sentence.
