(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old man has been detained for three months for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Lei Anxiang, a resident of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, was arrested by officers from Beihu District Domestic Security Division on July 24, 2019. He has been held at a local hospital since.
Three months before his arrest, Mr. Lei traveled 80 miles to Lechang City, Guangdong Province to spread information about the persecution of Falun Gong and urge the public to withdraw their memberships in the Communist Party.
The police in Lechang arrested him and took him back to Chenzhou. He was placed under house arrest for 18 days and watched by the police and staff members of the local residential committee.
The Political and Legal Affairs Committee (an extrajudicial agency tasked with persecuting Falun Gong) in Lechang later reported his case to the Guangdong Province Public Security Bureau, which then told its counterpart in Hunan Province not to let him off the hook.
Mr. Lei, a retired air conditioning production engineer, has been repeatedly persecuted for his faith in Falun Gong in the past 20 years. He was given two labor camp terms and a prison term for a total of eight years.
He once suffered five broken ribs and internal organ injuries after being beaten by police. Labor camp guards rolled a wooden club against his calf and twisted a pencil between his fingers until his bones were exposed.
Other forms of torture he was subjected to included standing in the sun for six to seven hours and being handcuffed to a railing outside for three days and nights. He was covered with mosquito bites.
His wife once said, “I’ve been living in fear for the past 20 years. It’s like balancing on a knife-edge all the time.”
