(Minghui.org) A resident of Qingdao City, Shandong Province is facing trial for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Tian Yongwen, 44, was arrested on June 7, 2018, shortly before the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization” summit that was held in Qingdao on June 9-10.
Many Falun Gong practitioners in Qingdao and nearby cities were targeted prior to the conference.
Days before Ms. Tian's arrest, one officer stopped her 11-year-old son on the street and asked for their home address.
Several officers visited Ms. Tian around noon on June 7, claiming to be checking on their household registration (hukou). The officers took a look at each room in her home and then left.
In the evening, one security person in her neighborhood knocked on her door. When Ms. Tian opened the door, a group of officers barged in and arrested her.
Ms. Tian's parents in their 70s, as well as her two boys, 2 and 11, were terrified by the police.
Her husband attempted to prevent the police from arresting her, but to no avail. Two officers held him in the living room, while others searched the rooms and confiscated many of their belongings. The officers left without providing a list of the confiscated items.
Ms. Tian's husband was also taken to the local police station, where he was forced to sign a blank search warrant and confiscation form. The officers threatened to hold him in the police station as long as he refused to sign the forms.
After spending 24 hours at the police station without being given any food or being allowed to sleep, Ms. Tian's husband gave in and signed the forms, as he began to worry about their two boys.
Upon returning home, he found Ms. Tian's gold ring and their U.S. currency were gone.
Ms. Tian was interrogated for three days at the police station before being taken to Pudong Detention Center in Jimo District, where she has since been held.
The Procuratorate recently indicted her and filed her case with the Huangdao District Court. Her lawyer visited her and reviewed her case documents on April 2-3, 2019.
Ms. Tian's mother has high blood pressure and diabetes. Her father also has some health issues. With Ms. Tian facing further prosecution for her faith, her husband, who is in his forties, struggles to take care of their boys and his in-laws. He is under so much stress that he has trouble hearing well, his hair has turned gray, and he has lost a significant amount of weight during the past few months.
