(Minghui.org) Master said, “Human or divine – the difference lies in one thought.” (“Fa Teaching Given at the 2010 New York Fa Conference,” Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XI) There are many things in our daily lives that we may have developed human views about. As practitioners we need to change our thoughts about such things.
For example, an article mentioned that when the wife of a senior Falun Dafa practitioner passed away, their children bought cemetery plots for both him and her. He didn't object. Shortly after that, he started to have severe illness symptoms. He realized that his not objecting to a burial plot would mean that he acknowledged his death. He then sent forth righteous thoughts and eliminated the trouble.
I used to keep plants at home, but they didn't do well. I told them “Falun Dafa is good” and asked them to grow to validate the Fa. But there was no improvement. Then I realized I was being selfish to want them to grow well and to control their lives. From then on, I had no expectations when I watered them. (Note: It is better not to keep plants at home as they may take up too much of your time and attention.)
A friend gave us a few bottles of honey. My wife said that we should take one spoonful a day as it is a tonic for facial care. I did it, but soon pimples started showing up on my body. I realized that when I thought something in the Three Realms was good, the law of the Three Realms would apply to me. Also, why should I pursue a better complexion?
Some female practitioners spend hundreds or thousands of yuan on facial care, hair care, or fingernail care products. Some spend money to dye their hair black. If we care about the things in the Three Realms, we are giving the old forces excuses to impose the Three Realm's materials on us.
I installed a sound activated light on the stair. My wife kept turning it off to “save electricity.” I explained to her that it would only be on when there was sound, but she still wouldn't use it. Whenever I turned it on, she turned it off.
I said to myself, “Would a divine being fight with her over this? Is it a good thing to insist on? My kindness should show without any pursuit.”
I stopped fighting with her over the light. Then, from time to time, she left it on.
Another time, several practitioners gathered at a restaurant. Each one ordered his favorite dish, but one kept smiling and didn't order. When the others asked him what he wanted, he simply said, “I will eat whatever you order.” I saw right away the gap in cultivation in having an attachment to food.
I recalled a story about Master taking the disciples who worked closely with him to a restaurant one day. Master ordered for them. He watched them enjoy the food, but he didn't eat much.
The difference between human and divine can be determined by an instant thought. It may take us a long time to cultivate to that level. But if we are really determined to cross that line, it can be done just in one moment.
