(Minghui.org) Two residents from the same district in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, have been detained at Chengdu City Detention Center for five months for not renouncing their faith in Falun Gong.
Both of them have been imprisoned before for their faith, after the Chinese communist regime ordered a nationwide campaign aimed to eradicate the spiritual practice of Falun Gong from China in July 1999.
Ms. Huang Xiangling
Ms. Huang Xiangling, 54, was arrested on November 21, 2018, at her workplace. The authorities targeted her because they suspected that she spray-painted over posters smearing Falun Gong outside the office building of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee in Xindu District. The PLAC is an extra-judicial agency tasked to persecute Falun Gong and given the power to override the judicial system.
She is now facing further prosecution after the police submitted her case to Xindu District Procuratorate.
Because of distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, Ms. Huang was sentenced to three years in 2007 and subjected to torture aimed to force her to renounce her faith.
After her prison term expired, the head of the local 610 Office (an extralegal agency created to persecute Falun Gong) sent her straight to the notorious Xinjin Brainwashing Center, as she still remained firm in Falun Gong. She held a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary detention and was released several months later on the verge of death.
While Ms. Huang served time in prison, her disabled husband was taken care of by his own parents, who were in their 70s, and their son, who was attending college. Their son had to rely on financial support from other family members in order to finish school.
After Ms. Huang was released from the brainwashing center, her family was poverty-stricken. Her son, who had got married, moved to another city after finding a job there. Ms. Huang also found a sales job at a food company to support herself and her husband, as well as her elderly parents-in-law.
Ms. Fu Fazhi
Ms. Fu Fazhi, 78, was arrested on November 25, 2018, for talking to people about Falun Gong at a plaza.
Even though she is experiencing some physical problems, her children, who are afraid of being implicated by the authorities, refrain from sending her clothes and money or hiring a lawyer for her.
In the past four years, Ms. Fu has been arrested four times for her efforts to raise awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong. She also served three years in prison between 2009 and 2012 for her faith.
