(Minghui.org) Ms. Xu Li, a bus driver in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, had previously been imprisoned four years for practicing Falun Gong. Late last month, she was again sentenced to another four years for her faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a meditation system based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to suppress the group in July 1999, a large number of practitioners have been arrested, detained, and tortured.
Arrest and Sentencing
Four officers from a local police station went to Ms. Xu’s apartment at 7 p.m. on October 28, 2018. They pressed her down and ransacked her residence.
The police targeted her because they suspected her of having covered up a publicly posted pro-CCP slogan.
That evening Ms. Xu was taken to the Yaojia Detention Center and an arrest warrant was issued on November 9. During a hearing at Gaoxinyuanqu (High-Tech Park) Court on May 29, 2019, a lawyer from Beijing entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. Ms. Xu also defended herself.
Because a large number of Falun Gong books and materials were confiscated from Ms. Xu's home, prosecutor Zou Daming alleged that was enough evidence to show she had committed a crime. Ms. Xu said all those materials were her personal belongings, “Even if I have a truck load of Falun Gong publications, I am not violating any law.”
Judge Jiang Chunyan sentenced Ms. Xu to four years of imprisonment in late June 2019.
Four Years of Jail for Distributing DVDs
Ms. Xu began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Three months into the practice, her three uterine tumors disappeared. As a bus driver, her hands used to have cracks due to dryness, which was also cured soon afterwards. Her outgoing personality and willingness to help others earned her respect from her coworkers, family members, and others around her.
Because of her belief and efforts to tell others about the persecution, Ms. Xu was arrested and had her home ransacked numerous times.
Ms. Xu was arrested on July 22, 2013 after being reported for giving out Shen Yun DVDs to a pedestrian. She was sentenced to a four-year imprisonment on December 28 that year. While held at Liaoning Women’s Prison, she was tortured in many ways including being tied up, shocked with electric batons, beaten, exposed to the elements, forced to stand for a long time, and deprived of sleep.
