(Minghui.org) An aircraft engineer in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province was sentenced to two years in prison in June 2019 for refusing to renounce his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 1999.
Mr. Hu Lin appealed to Shenyang City Intermediate Court, which ruled on August 6, 2019 that the Faku County Court had violated legal procedure in prosecuting the case and must hold a retrial.
The trial court promised to host an open hearing of Mr. Hu in ten days with a different presiding judge.
Mr. Hu was arrested on May 23, 2019 and sent to Faku County Detention Center, where he was immobilized on a wood board in spread-eagle position for weeks before and after his sentencing on June 18.
When Mr. Hu's lawyer went to Faku County Court to review the case document at 8 a.m. on June 18, he was surprised to find that the judge had scheduled a hearing for his client for 9 a.m. that morning.
The lawyer had also been denied visits with his client for many weeks. He didn't get to see Mr. Hu at the detention center until July 16, 2019, one month after the court hearing. He soon filed an appeal on behalf of Mr. Hu.
