(Minghui.org) A Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, resident has filed a motion to reconsider his case after the local intermediate court upheld his 3.5-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Yan Rongjie, 55, was arrested on July 23, 2018 after being reported for sending Falun Gong-related information to people's cell phones.
The Liwan District Court sentenced him to 3.5 years in prison and fined him 5,000 yuan on May 31, 2019. The Guangzhou City Intermediate Court rejected his appeal on July 30, 2019.
Mr. Yan's lawyer visited him at the Yuexiu District Detention Center on August 21, 2019 and found that his blood pressure was a life-threatening 280/240mmHg. It is unclear whether the detention center provided him any medical treatment.
Mr. Yan is the sole caregiver of his parents, who are in their 80s. His father is almost blind and incontinent after surgery for glaucoma and bowel cancer. The elderly man suffered a heart attack and fell into a coma less than one month after his son's arrest.
