(Minghui.org) An 80-year-old mother traveled nearly 250 miles hoping to see her imprisoned daughter but was told that no visit would be allowed.
A guard at Shijiazhuang Women's Prison said the reason was because the Chinese Communist Party's 70th National Day was coming up on October 1, a date deemed sensitive by authorities who often tighten up surveillance and increase arrests of dissidents around “sensitive dates.”
Ms. Wang Yuling, a resident of Botou City, Hebei Province, was arrested on May 17, 2018 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
She was tried by the Renqiu City Court on November 14 and sentenced weeks later. According to her family who attended the hearing, Ms. Wang suffered some health issues in the local detention center. She was unable to walk and had to be carried into the courtroom during the hearing.
Ms. Wang's elderly mother hasn't been allowed to see her since her arrest last year. She often cries and is unable to eat or sleep well out of worry for her daughter.
She traveled all the way to the prison with her two grandsons on September 6, 2019, the prison's visiting day, only to be turned away.
