(Minghui.org) A Wuhu City, Anhui Province resident was recently sentenced to three years in Anhui Province Women’s Prison for practicing Falun Gong. Her parents in their 80s, who had relied on her for care, now struggle to fend for themselves.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Xu Fengliu, a 59-year-old herbalist, was arrested on May 28, 2018, for passing out informational materials about Falun Gong. She was beaten, force-fed and monitored around the clock when she was detained at Wuhu City Detention Center.
It remains to be investigated when she was tried and by which court.
Ms. Xu took up Falun Gong in November 1997 and she credits the practice for significantly improving her health.
Because of not renouncing her faith in the face of the persecution, she has been arrested and detained several times.
Ms. Xu was given a two-year term at Anhui Women’s Forced Labor Camp after her arrest on August 24, 2007. She was subjected to intensive brainwashing, sleep deprivation, verbal abuse and solitary confinement. The guards also forced her to do unpaid labor for long hours each day.
At one time, because she stopped the guards from beating two elderly Falun Gong practitioners, they retaliated against her by giving her steam buns with mold.
Her health deteriorated quickly as a result of the immense mental and physical torment in the labor camp. The authorities also extended her term by one month because she refused to give up Falun Gong. She was emaciated by the time she was released.
