(Minghui.org) It has recently been confirmed by Minghui.org that four residents in four different cities in Guangdong Province were sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Hui
Ms. Zhang Hui, a 76-year-old resident in Guangzhou City, was arrested on July 9, 2019, after the police suspected her of spreading information about the persecution.
The Guangzhou City Procuratorate approved Ms. Zhang’s arrest on August 16, 2019. She was indicted on November 12, 2019, and her case was forwarded to the Haizhu District Court.
In February 2020, Ms. Zhang was transferred from the Guangzhou City No. 1 Detention Center to the Haizhu District Detention Center.
The Haizhu District Court sentenced Ms. Zhang to four years with 5,000 yuan fine in late 2020. She appealed with the Guangzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold her original verdict on February 23, 2021.
Ms. Wu Yujuan
Ms. Wu Yujuan, a 44-year-old Jieyang City resident, was arrested on June 14, 2020, after being reported for using banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong. Due to strict information censorship in China, many practitioners are using creative ways to raise awareness about the persecution, including printing messages on banknotes.
The police ransacked Ms. Wu’s home and confiscated 5,000 yuan in cash that belonged to her. Her husband, who didn’t practice Falun Gong, was also arrested and detained for ten days.
Ms. Wu was held at the Jieyang City Detention Center. Her arrest was approved on July 22, 2020. The Jiedong County Court sentenced her to four years and six months, with 5,000 yuan fine, on December 15, 2020.
Mr. Lu Guokun
Mr. Lu Guokun, of Maoming City, was arrested on July 21, 2020, after a surveillance camera recorded him distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Guangzhou City. He was held at the Nansha District Detention Center in Guangzhou and sentenced to 3.5 years in prison with a 5,000-yuan fine by the Liwan District Court in Guangzhou on May 14, 2021.
Mr. Wang
Mr. Wang, a 79-year-old Shenzhen City resident whose first name is unknown, was arrested on August 18, 2020, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong.
Mr. Wang was sentenced to one year and seven months, with a 2,000-yuan fine, in early 2021 by the Nanshan District Court. He appealed the verdict. The Shenzhen City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold his original sentence on April 20, 2021.
