(Minghui.org) A Chinese idiom says, “difficult is for those who cannot, not for those who can.” It means that a problem appears very difficult or impossible for someone without the ability to solve it, but it does not for those who have the ability. From ancient times to the modern day, there have been many stories about virtuous cultivators extending a hand to those in need and solving difficult problems.
Sun Simiao (541-682 AD) was called Medicine King in Chinese history. His two books, Qianjin Yaofang and Qianjin Yifang, were considered great medical encyclopedias in ancient China.
One day he came upon a group of people carrying a coffin and heading to a burial site. Noticing blood dripping from the coffin, Sun examined it and knew the person could be saved. So he ran after them and called out, “Stop! Stop! I can save this person! She is not dead yet!”
People ignored him, thinking he was insane. Sun begged them to stop and put the coffin down, but no one listened to him, since locals considered stopping a coffin halfway bad luck. Sun had no choice but to follow them and continue yelling, “This person died in labor—the baby did not come out, and the mother kept bleeding and died too, right? She continues to bleed now, so it means this person can be saved. Please put down the coffin now; otherwise, it will be too late.”
Surprised by his accurate description, as if he had seen the entire incident, people stopped. They put the coffin down and opened it. Sun took out a needle and pricked the appropriate acupuncture point of the woman. Not long after that, she came back to life with an exhalation. Just as everyone was overcome with surprise and joy, there came the cries of a baby. Both the mother and baby were saved, and the people cheered.
This miracle of saving two lives with one needle quickly became known throughout the community.
Zhang Daoling, a renowned Taoist during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 BC–220 AD), had tens of thousands of disciples. Like other Taoists, he focused on character improvement and spiritual enlightenment.
Besides teaching his disciples, Zhang also guided the public to strive for a higher moral standard and better conduct. One example was his unique way of dealing with plagues. Zhang asked those infected to write down all the wrongdoings they had ever done in their entire lives. Then they were to place the paper in water and vow to the divine not to do bad things again. They also had to promise that, were they to do wrong again, they would rather end their lives.
Many people followed this advice and recovered. More people heard about this, did as instructed, and were cured. As a result, Zhang and his disciples saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
Minghui.org published a story in March 2020 about a physician couple in Wuhan who miraculously recovered from the coronavirus after they heeded their nephew's advice to recite “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”
The nephew is a Falun Dafa practitioner living in North America. Falun Dafa is a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Below is an excerpt of the story told by the nephew.
Even before the 2020 Chinese New Year, I had already read about the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. Since my uncle lives there, I called him to remind him to stock up on food. He dismissed the news of an outbreak and told me not to believe in rumors. “Wuhan will be fine,” he assured me.
We had a video chat on January 31, 2020, and he looked weak and disappointed, as if he were bidding me farewell. “I did not know anything about the outbreak before Wuhan was locked down,” he said. “And your aunt [his wife] and I went everywhere to parties and played mahjong with friends. But after that, we both got a fever.”
Since my aunt and uncle are both doctors, they began to give each other injections to bring their fevers down. But their conditions deteriorated after a week. Their fevers persisted and they lost hope.
I told him to try reciting “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” “Nonsense!” he replied impatiently. “If this is what you want to tell me, we’d better stop here.”
I had started practicing Falun Dafa in college. I was expelled from school because of my belief after the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Dafa. I later left China and started a new life in North America. My uncle thought I was being stubborn for not giving up the practice.
I then suggested he try garlic tea. The next day, my uncle called me again. “The garlic tea didn’t work,” he said. “It’s all over for us.”
Seeing his frustration and desperation, I knew he needed help. “Uncle, you’re a doctor, so you know there aren’t any drugs for coronavirus yet and that many people in Wuhan have already died of it. If you were after money or fame, I couldn’t help with that. But if health and safety are what you are looking for, Falun Dafa is the best.”
He asked me what I thought of Falun Dafa. “It gave me a good health,” I said.
“What do you think I should do?” he asked.
I said, “you should keep reciting ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.’ You can say it out loud. If anything changes, please tell me.” He agreed.
That evening, I called my uncle and asked him, “How are things going now?”
“It helped,” he said. “After the fever set in, I was stressed all the time and could hardly sleep. After I recited those words last night, I slept well. I think it worked.”
Glad to hear about his improvement, I said, “To fully help you recover, I still hope you will try doing the Falun Dafa exercises.” I sent him instructional videos of the exercises.
That evening (already morning in China), my uncle sent me a voice message: “I am okay now. It’s like a miracle!” He said the fever was all gone that night. Not only that, his legs that used to always feel cold were now warm and comfortable. “I must go and tell your aunt now. She was sent to the hospital,” he said.
Upon seeing my uncle's recovery, my aunt started reciting those phrases too. After she began practicing the Falun Dafa exercises, she too recovered.
From past to present, there have been too many things that we can’t explain with science. Sometimes, in the most difficult of times, maybe what we need to do is to open up our minds and break through our notions. Perhaps what can help us is right before our eyes.
