(Minghui.org) Ms. Jin Yan, a senior engineer at Jilin Provincial Environmental Monitoring Center, served three years for telling people about how the Chinese Communist Party had been persecuting her faith of Falun Gong for the past 22 years. The Changchun City, Jilin Province resident suffered various means of torture, including scolding, sitting on small stools, isolation, and deprivation of sleep while serving time at Jilin Province Women's Prison.
Below are the details of her case.
Health Improvement and Mental Elevation from Practicing Falun Gong
Ms. Jin, 51, graduated from Jilin University with a major in Chemistry. She had a strong background in data analysis and was highly regarded by colleagues in her field. But she had a bad temper and thus offended many people. She also suffered from long-term hematuria because of serious nephritis and felt extremely weak every day.
In order to cure her illnesses, Ms. Jin started to practice Falun Gong in 2004 with a mentality of giving it a try. After she took up the practice, the nephritis that had plagued her for years disappeared and she quickly regained her health.
She became friendly to people and worked even harder. She never abused her power for personal gain and thus was trusted by her supervisors and coworkers.
As a Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Jin lives by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She did not accept gifts when she was in charge of project audits. On one occasion, she was in charge of equipment purchasing. As a common way for the salesperson to bribe purchase managers, they offered to put a higher price than the actual amount on the receipt. But Ms. Jin rejected it.
Ms. Jin avoided making unnecessary trips to reduce expenses for the company. She also gave up opportunities to travel even though she would receive subsidies for making the trips.
At home, she is a good mother. She raised her daughter alone, supporting her all the way through college. When the father of her ex-husband was ill, she helped share some medical expenses even though she was still in debt from paying for her daughter's education.
Persecution in Jilin Province Women's Prison
On October 26, 2017, Ms. Jin was on her way to Shenyang City, Liaoning Province for a business trip when she was stopped before boarding the train. After security personnel found that she was a Falun Gong practitioner from scanning her flagged ID, she was arrested and detained for seven days.
On March 17, 2018, Ms. Jin was arrested after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked. The Chaoyang District Procuratorate approved her arrest one month later, in April.
On September 27, 2018, the Chaoyang District Court held a hearing without informing her family or her attorney. The hearing lasted only five minutes. On November 30, Ms. Jin was secretly sentenced to three years in prison.
On March 6, 2019, Ms. Jin was transferred to Jilin Province Women's Prison, where she was severely abused. She was not allowed to wash herself or brush her teeth. She was given only pickles and steamed buns for meals. She was often forced to sit on a small stool and beaten by inmates when she resisted.
On March 20, 2019, Ms. Jin was locked up in a damp solitary confinement cell. The isolation lasted three months. She lost weight and developed eczema in the legs when she was taken back to a regular cell on June 17.
Since then, she was vituperated every day by three inmates who had been instigated by the guards. Starting in September 2019, she was only allowed to sleep very little for two months. The abuses continued until she was released on March 16, 2021.
