(Minghui.org) A woman in her 80s serving a four-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong has been denied family visits for over five months. It’s reported that Ms. Yu Shufeng is suffering from a medical condition. Her family is calling on the international community to help rescue her.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yu, of Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province, was arrested in January 2020 after being recorded by a surveillance camera hanging up a banner that said, “Falun Dafa Is Good.” Despite her leg problems and impaired hearing, the authorities sentenced her and took her to the Lanzhou Women’s Prison to serve time.
The prison is now denying her family visits, with the excuse that she has refused to renounce Falun Gong. Her family is very worried that she is being tortured in prison.
This is the second time that Ms. Yu has been sentenced for her faith. She was previously arrested on March 25, 2006, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. After being detained for over eight months, she was secretly sentenced to three years in Lanzhou Women’s Prison.
All Falun Gong practitioners serving time at the Lanzhou Women’s Prison are subjected to various torture methods designed to force them to renounce their faith.
Ms. Xu Huixian, a retired teacher of Zhenyuan County, Gansu Province, was sentenced to 3.5 years in 2015. She became emaciated and was on the verge of death when the prison released her on medical parole on June 18, 2016. She passed away three weeks later on July 8. Her family said she remained very weak upon returning home. She was drowsy most of the time. When she was awake, she was very irritated. They suspected she was injected with toxic drugs while in prison.
