(Minghui.org) The Political and Legal Affair Committees of Mianyang City and Jiangyou City in Sichuan Province arrested a dozen Falun Gong practitioners in Jiangyou City on June 18 and 19, 2021, only days before the 100-year anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) founding on July 1, 2021.
The arrests came as the authorities attempted to prevent practitioners from speaking out to the public about the persecution of their faith that has been going on for the past 22 years.
Mr. Du Zhijun and his wife, Ms. Wu Qihui, both in their 80s, were among the arrested practitioners. They have been arrested and detained several time over the past years.
Ms. Fu Fayu, her son Mr. Wei Bing, and her sister Ms. Fu Faqiong were also arrested. The two Fu sisters were released after 15 days of detention. It’s not clear whether Mr. Wei remains in custody.
Ms. Fu Fayu’s husband, Mr. Wei Zhaohai, was persecuted to death in Deyang Prison in 2013. Their son, Mr. Wei Bing, was once sentenced to 10 years in prison and imprisoned at the same prison, Deyang Prison, with his father.
Ms. Xu Zhongrong was arrested by four plainclothes officers when she went grocery shopping. She was first taken to the local police department, then to her home for a raid. Her Falun Gong books, cell phone, and other personal belongings were confiscated. She was released after 15 days of detention.
Other practitioners who were targeted in the arrest are Ms. Wang Linying, who was released after 15 days of detention; Ms. Zhang Jianfang, who was released due to high blood pressure; Ms. Xu Houfen and Mr. Zhang Zhizhong, who were released on the same day of their arrests; Ms. Tang Wanzhi and Ms. Yin Juhua, who remain detained.
It was reported that Ms. Tang and Ms. Yin, along with several other detained practitioners, may be sent to Mianyang City and Zitong County for further persecution.
Some of the targeted practitioners’ whereabouts are still unknown.
