(Minghui.org) A Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province resident was held in a psychiatric hospital for 27 days, simply for upholding her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wu Xiuying was arrested at home by agents from her local village committee, township government and police on October 5, 2021. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and forced her to fingerprint a document about her case.
Ms. Wu was then held in Pengzhou City Psychiatric Hospital for 27 days. She was forced to take psychiatric drugs three times during her stay and was beaten when she resisted. The authorities have continued to harass her after she was released.
According to information collected by Minghui.org, as of December 27, 2021, at least 865 healthy Falun Gong practitioners from 29 provinces or province-level cities had been sent to mental hospitals at one point or another for upholding their faith.
Sometimes family members are also implicated. Ms. Zhang Caixia, a hospital employee in Baoji City of Shaanxi Province, was arrested on her way to work on August 26, 2021. After being sent to Wangjiaya Rehabilitation Center, a psychiatric hospital, she was forced to write statements to renounce her belief in Falun Gong. When her husband went to seek her release, he was also pressured to write statements against Falun Gong, or else he’d be arrested.
With the blatant human rights abuses in China, the communist regime has also extended the persecution to the general public. In a recent case, a teacher who was four months pregnant in Hunan Province was taken to a psychiatric hospital for voicing her support for another teacher in Shanghai, Song Gengyi, who had simply questioned the actual casualties of the Nanjing Massacre.
