(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman in Yushu City, Jilin Province has been detained at the Yushu City Detention Center since July 2021 for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. At the time of writing, she has been detained for more than six months.
Ms. Xu Lihua’s family suspects that her latest ordeal is related to her earlier arrest on March 2, 2020, for putting up posters about Falun Gong. She was targeted after being reported by residential committee staff members, who noticed the posters while patrolling the area. The police ransacked her home at 10 p.m. and questioned her at the police station as to where she obtained the posters.
Ms. Xu refused to answer any questions. She was held at the police station for a day and then released on bail, as the local detention center refused to take her due to the pandemic.
Prior to her arrest in 2020, Ms. Xue was arrested on May 3, 2011, also for distributing materials about Falun Gong. The authorities kept her family in the dark regarding her situation and secretly sentenced her to three years in Jilin Province Women’s Prison.
