(Minghui.org) A Benxi City, Liaoning Province resident was sentenced to 4.5 years for practicing Falun Gong. The judge announced the verdict without ever having a trial.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Xiaoxia was arrested at home on October 15, 2020 by officers from Xiaoshi Police Station. The police came in four cars and confiscated many of her personal items. Another six practitioners in Benxi were also arrested on the same day.
Ms. Li was released on bail after she failed to pass the physical examination required for detention. Staff members from the Nanfen District Court and officers of Xiaoshi Police Station went to her home twice to interview her. Her husband, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, was also questioned.
A staff member from the Nanfen District Court went to Ms. Li’s home on December 23, 2021 and delivered the verdict to her. She was sentenced to 4.5 years and fined 10,000 yuan. The verdict claimed that the judge had appointed a lawyer to represent Ms. Li, but she said she was never aware of it and the lawyer never contacted her.
Another two practitioners arrested with her, Mr. Wu Chengjun and Mr. Li Feipeng, were sentenced on December 1 by the Hengren County Court to 8 and 4.5 years respectively.
