(Minghui.org) I was arrested in 2011 and put in prison for exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong. One of the guards, Xu, was specifically in charge of detained Falun Gong practitioners.
One day Xu summoned me to her office for a talk. I was very calm and told her that I was jailed for raising awareness of the persecution of my faith. I said to her, “Falun Gong practitioners live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and we strive to be good and better citizens who are always considerate of others.”
I also explained that the book Zhuan Falun, the main teachings of Falun Gong, actually teaches us not to fight back when being beaten or sworn at. “Look, Falun Gong is now practiced in over 100 countries and is suppressed only in China. If it’s not good, why would so many people follow it?” I continued, “The practice’s health benefits are also enormous. I used to have numerous illnesses and all of them disappeared after I began to practice Falun Gong. Look how healthy I am now and you will know how great Falun Gong is.”
“I know all about this, as other practitioners have told me about this too. In fact, I have read Zhuan Falun a number of times,” Xu replied.
“That’s great. The book teaches one to be good – the more you read it, the better,” I said.
Xu was doubtful and questioned why she should believe me.
“Of course you need to make your own decision,” I replied. “But you have seen how I’ve interacted with others. And you know what kind of person I am.”
She said how I acted was not important to her. I wondered what mattered to her, and she replied, “I want to have a baby. I’ve been trying for a long time, but I just can’t conceive. Were I to get pregnant, I would believe what you say.”
I couldn’t help but chuckle, and she asked why.
“You are a nice person,” I replied.
She didn’t believe me, “Come on. You practitioners already put me on the list of evildoers. And you are still saying I am nice?”
I responded, “At least you are honest. See, we all want a better life. You want to become pregnant, and we Falun Gong practitioners want to be able to practice our faith without being persecuted. Guess what? Protecting the innocent will bring blessings.”
I suggested that she protect us jailed practitioners within her authority and help create a more relaxed environment for practitioners. For instance, she could just turn a blind eye when she noted any practitioner studying the Falun Gong teachings.
“I know you have been studying a Falun Gong book for a while here. And you even hand copied it,” she said.
I told her that not persecuting me for studying the book would bring her blessings and encouraged her to do more to protect jailed practitioners.
Her attitude toward practitioners improved after our conversation. Not long after that, she became pregnant and later gave birth to a baby boy.
