A Chengdu City, Sichuan Province woman died three days after she was arrested for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. She was 53.
Ms. Huang Sulan was arrested at around 1 p.m. on January 20, 2022, in her subdivision by Zhang Jun of the Pengzhou City Domestic Security Office and other officers. She was taken to the Pengzhou City Police Department around midnight.
The police took Ms. Huang to the Lao County Hospital for a physical exam on the evening of January 21, 2022, and then back to the police department for interrogation. Her fingerprints were collected.
The police then put Ms. Huang under house arrest. They covered her head with a black hood and took her to Room 416 at Yunduan Hotel in Chengdu. She was handcuffed and shackled. Two people monitored her around the clock.
The police continued to interrogate Ms. Huang for the next two days on January 22 and 23. On the evening of January 23, people in the room nearby heard that Ms. Huang was being beaten and there was the sound of chairs being dragged around. Ms. Huang was taken to the hospital around midnight and pronounced dead.
The police informed Ms. Huang’s family to take her body from the funeral home on the afternoon of January 24. Her family is still waiting for the autopsy report about the cause of her death.
