(Minghui.org) My mother had a stroke when she was 50 years old, which was worrisome for her children. I knew that I didn't want to end up needing my children to take care of me when I was old.
A friend told me in 1997 that her uncle from Shandong Province was illness-free because he practiced Falun Dafa. He had recovered from all his past ailments. She wanted her father to practice Falun Dafa too, and told me that there was an exercise site in the nearby stadium.
I was very interested, since it could help people heal their illnesses and keep them fit. It was exactly what I wanted. After arriving at the stadium, a volunteer assistant taught me the exercises. As I studied the Fa more, I realized that this is a high-level cultivation system that improves people’s morals, and purifies both mind and body.
I changed from being selfish to being considerate of others, and from being sulky to being cheerful. Dafa has changed my thinking and purified my mind. I am in good health, my body feels light, and I am very energetic. All because I try to be a good person, and follow the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Being a Good Person at Work
I worked in a construction company, where my job was to look after the mail room, as well as to clean up and water the flowers. The construction season in northern China was very short and the project timelines were tight. The company’s cashier also looked after the warehouse and sometimes had to go to the bank. Then, the workers had to wait for her to return to check out the construction materials. The cashier asked me to help count the materials being checked out from the warehouse and the amount returned at the end of day. I readily agreed to help.
I had helped in the warehouse for several years. Although it was extra work for me, I never complained. The leader of the company said that he would be happy if all of the other employees were like me. One time, the company leaders discussed giving me a bonus of 500 yuan for the extra work I did. I said that I already received the year-end bonus and benefits, so I didn’t want the bonus. In the end, the leader gave me the bonus anyway.
The company was in a three-story building. The first and second floors were offices, and the third floor was a large conference room. My job was labor-intensive, but I did it well every day. On rainy and snowy days, I needed to wipe the floor several times as the workers would be traipsing through in their muddy boots. Although I was tired and sweaty, I was pleased to see my colleagues have a clean environment to work in.
The company leaders knew that I was a Falun Gong practitioner. When officers from the domestic security or police came to harass me, the company leaders would turn them away. The company received blessings as a result, as business boomed, employee wages were high, and benefits were very good.
Once, a senior leader visited our company. He walked all around the building, and said to the company leader, “Your place is really clean.” The company leader was very happy. When I retired, I was highly praised for my work at the all-staff meeting and publicly rewarded 500 yuan.
My Son Benefited from Dafa
My son started doing the Dafa exercises with me when he was about 12 years old. During winter vacation, he accompanied me to the stadium to do the exercises. Winter in the northern China is very cold, with temperatures as low as -30ºC (-22°F). He told me that he felt like there was a small stove in his lower abdomen, and when his hands went to that area they didn’t feel cold.
My son was allergic to certain types of fish when he was young. One time his hands and face were swollen due to the allergy. His teacher told him to go home. I told my son: “Lie down on the bed, I will read Master’s teaching “Sickness Karma” to you. You will be fine after a good night’s sleep.” After I finished reading, he fell asleep. When he woke up, the swelling was gone, and he went back to school. He no longer had to worry about allergies since then.
My son was not a smart kid, until Dafa gave him wisdom. His academic performance was good, and he was one of the best in his class. When I was illegally detained in a labor camp for one year, his studies were not impacted. He got into a middle school being in third place in his class. In elementary school, he was a top student every year. After graduating from high school he was admitted to a prestigious university.
There, he would do the exercises when no one was around in the dormitory, and study the Fa when the classroom was empty. He got employed by a good company after graduation and has a good salary.
Taking Care of In-laws
My husband has one younger sister and two younger brothers. One brother died of a stroke at the age of 46. The other brother is mentally disabled. My parents-in-law and brother-in-law lived together. My father-in-law had a stroke and cerebellar atrophy when he was 74. My husband and I let my father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law live in our house, so we could take care of them. Because my home was small, my husband and I moved out and rented a place to live.
My father-in-law couldn’t urinate, and was hospitalized for surgery. I made breakfast, lunch and dinner every day and delivered them to the hospital. The nurses thought I was his daughter, and said to my mother-in-law, “What a wonderful daughter you have.” When my mother-in-law told them that I was the daughter-in-law, people in the ward envied her for having such a filial daughter-in-law.
My father-in-law was bedridden at 76. In order to reduce the burden on my mother-in-law, my husband and I bought an electric hospital bed for my father-in-law. The bed helped prevent my father-in-law from getting bedsores. I also washed his diapers as soon as I got off work.
My father-in-law passed away two years after being bedridden. Two years after that he passed away, my mother-in-law later had a stroke and cerebellar atrophy. Whenever she was hospitalized, I stayed with her at night. When she wet her pants, I washed them for her.
She was once hospitalized in a neighboring city. There were eight patients in one ward. A total of 16 people were there, including those accompanying the patients. The ward was small and like a sauna in the summer. When my mother-in-law slept I would sit on a chair in the corridor, and fall asleep there.
My mother-in-law suffered from urethritis, and urinated frequently. I had to clean her urinal, and it was difficult to sleep. The next morning, my husband brought my mother-in-law food and took over from me, while I took the bus to work. After getting off work, I cooked for her and took a taxi to the hospital. The patients and their families in the ward thought I was my mother-in-law’s daughter.
Every year, my mother-in-law needed to be hospitalized to receive injections, and night care was my responsibility. The year before last the coronavirus pandemic broke out, and only one family member was allowed to stay in the hospital with the patient, so I stayed with my mother-in-law 24 hours a day. She liked to talk, and I would listen to her patiently. She often wet her pants. I would change and wash them. My husband has a hot temper, and would get irritated when my mother-in-law talked too much. I would persuade him to go out for a walk if he didn’t want to listen.
Last year, my husband’s work place went out of business. He was at home to take care of my mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Because he couldn’t sleep well, he got sick.
He went to see a Chinese medicine doctor, which helped with his sleep. However, he had a herniated disc, which made it difficult to bend. I helped him prepare meals everyday before going to work. I was really busy and tired, but after doing the exercises every day, I would be energetic. Sometimes I just thought: If I didn’t practice Dafa, I really couldn’t do what I did.
Thank you Master for passing on Falun Dafa to me.
