(Minghui.org) An 82-year-old Jinan City, Shandong Province resident received a call from the Zhangqiu District Court on September 8, 2022 and was ordered to go there the next day.
Ms. Liu Chunping’s son drove her there on September 9 as required. As she couldn’t climb the stairs to enter the courthouse, two staff members came over to the car and handed her a one-year prison sentence with a 5,000-yuan fine. They also ordered her to undergo a physical examination and get ready to be taken to prison. Ms. Liu is still at home at the time of writing and it’s not clear whether the authorities will enforce her term, despite her advanced age.
Ms. Liu was arrested in October 2021 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She appeared in court on July 26, 2022, with the charge of “promoting superstition and undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong.
Prior to her latest ordeal, Ms. Liu was sentenced to one year in 2002 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was arrested again in 2020 and released the same day, also for distributing Falun Gong materials.
