(Minghui.org) A Lanzhou City, Gansu Province resident is facing five years in prison for his faith in Falun Gong following his latest arrest in August 2022 and indictment in February 2023.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Li Wenming, 59 and a former employee of the Lanzhou locomotive factory, made a living by caring for another Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Su Anzhou, 70. The two of them were previously arrested in August 2002 for tapping into a cable TV network to raise awareness about the persecution. Mr. Li was sentenced to 20 years, and Mr. Su received ten years. Mr. Su’s wife and son, who also practiced Falun Gong, both died in the persecution.
Mr. Li was released in August 2021, one year before the end of his 20-year term. Both he and Mr. Su were arrested again on August 23, 2022 together with five other practitioners, as the police tried to meet the quota for a stability maintenance operation prior to the Communist Party’s 20th Congress to be held in October.
Mr. Li was first held in the Honggu District Detention Center and then transferred to the Xiguoyuan Detention Center. He was indicted in February 2023 and the prosecutor threatened to give him five years.
As Mr. Li’s parents passed away when he was a child and he didn’t have any other close relatives, no one is allowed to visit him or seek justice for him now.
