(Minghui.org) Two Deyang City, Sichuan Province residents have been sentenced since last year for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Yang Zhipeng and Ms. Zhao Jie were arrested on March 25, 2020 while distributing the materials. The police took Mr. Yang to his home at 2 a.m. and raided his place. His computer was confiscated. Ms. Zhao also had her home ransacked. Both of them were put under criminal detention on March 27.
Mr. Yang appeared in court on November 22, 2022 and was sentenced to four years at the end of the hearing. His mother was devastated by his sentencing and passed away the next day.
Ms. Zhao stood trial at the Jingyang District Court on February 17, 2023. She was sentenced to eight years with a 100,000-yuan fine. Her father recently took a fall and became bedridden. Both he and his wife are longing for Ms. Zhao’s return.
Before Ms. Zhao took up Falun Gong, she suffered a rare disease, which caused her to suddenly lose consciousness, throw up and suffer severe nose bleeds. The doctor said her condition was caused by a brain nerve disorder, but he didn’t know of any cure for it. He said he only saw the same disease in a boy, who had already died. He asked Ms. Zhao’s family to spend more time with her, as she may experience fainting episodes at any time. She lost hope for life and often contemplated committing suicide. But after she practiced Falun Gong, she completely recovered. Both she and her family were deeply grateful for the practice.
