(Minghui.org) It’s been recently confirmed by Minghui.org that two Beijing residents, both serving ten years for practicing Falun Gong, have suffered severe medical conditions at the Beijing Women’s Prison.
Ms. Guo Jinxiang had a mental breakdown and Ms. Qing Xiuying exhibited severe symptoms. But details about when they started having health issues and their current situation aren’t fully known.
According to an insider, the authorities recently transferred all Falun Gong practitioners from the Beijing Women’s Prison to Liulin Prison, which is under the jurisdiction of the Beijing Prison Administration Bureau but located in Chadian Town, Binhai New Area, Tianjin. Reasons for the move aren’t clear.
The guards at the Beijing Women’s Prison often torture Falun Gong practitioners by depriving them of sleep, denying them restroom use, or subjecting them to other forms of physical abuse.
In addition to physical abuse, the guards also accuse the practitioners of being mentally ill and subject them to “struggle sessions,” where they are verbally attacked by other inmates for their faith. Sometimes the guards arrange for inmates to give talks to demonize the practitioners and incite others to hate them.
When the practitioners refuse to renounce Falun Gong, the guards also refused to allow their cellmates to take a shower and deprived them of sleep. This has been very effective at getting the inmates to hate practitioners, isolate them, and increase their mental stress.
In a recent torture case, Ms. Zhang Shuxiang, a then 73-year-old Beijing resident serving a three-year term, developed severe diabetes and high blood pressure due to the abuse in prison. Claiming to be “helping her” to control her blood sugar, the inmate assigned to monitor her gave her very little food at each meal and didn’t allow her to drink water. Ms. Zhang soon became emaciated and incontinent. She began to experience organ failure and was on the verge of death. She was taken home in an ambulance on April 3, 2019. She remained bedridden since then and passed away a year later on March 30, 2021.
This is not the first time that Ms. Qing has been targeted for her faith. She was previously arrested on September 11, 2009, and given 2.5 years at Beijing Women’s Forced Labor Camp. She was held in solitary confinement, deprived of sleep, and denied restroom use. As a result of the torture, she became emaciated and developed a mental disorder. Fortunately, she gradually recovered after she resumed doing the Falun Gong exercises upon her release.
Ms. Qing was arrested again on January 21, 2016. She appeared in the Tongzhou District Court on September 7, 2017, and was sentenced to ten years with a 100,000-yuan fine.
Ms. Qing’s husband, Mr. Yang Wenguang, who had his right leg amputated after being injured working in a coal mine, passed away in distress at home by himself, on January 28, 2017, Chinese New Year’s Day.
