(Minghui.org) An elderly woman from Hanchuan City, Hubei Province, was twice taken to Hubei Province Women’s Prison and tortured for refusing to renounce her faith in Falun Dafa. In order to coerce Ms. Wang Guilan to give up her belief, the prison guards and inmates force-fed her with nerve-damaging drugs, stabbed her with sharpened pencils, made her stand still for long hours, and deprived her of sleep, showers, and toilet use.
Falun Dafa is a meditation practice that has been brutally persecuted by the Chinese regime since July 1999. Shortly after Ms. Wang took up the practice in 1996, her inflammation, spinal problems, insomnia and dizziness disappeared without her noticing when. After the persecution started, she was taken to a detention center, a brainwashing center, and extorted for 10,000 yuan.
For putting up a Falun Dafa banner in Caidian District, Wuhan City on February 24, 2016, Ms. Wang was arrested by officers from the Caidian District Police Department and had her home ransacked. She stood trial at the Caidian District Court in April 2017 and was sentenced to 2.5 years in the Hubei Province Women’s Prison.
In the prison, the guards incited two inmates to torture Ms. Wang in order to break her will and force her to give up the practice. The inmates stabbed her with sharpened pencils until she bled. They also forced her to step on a photograph of Falun Dafa’s founder, slapped her in the face, and banned her from showering and using the toilet. They made her stand still for long periods of time until her lower body became swollen. She was often not allowed to go to sleep until after 1 a.m.
After she was released, Ms. Wang continued to raise awareness about the brutal persecution. The police arrested her on June 20, 2019 for distributing materials and released her the same day. A few months later on September 19, officers from the Hanchuan City Police Department arrested her again and ransacked her home. After a hearing at the Xiaochang County Court on December 26, 2019, Ms. Wang was given another 3-year sentence. She was transferred from the detention center to the Hubei Women’s Prison in March 2021.
Upon arriving at the prison, guard Tang Rui had a prison doctor take Ms. Wang’s blood pressure. Tang claimed that her blood pressure was too high and gave her some medicine. She soon started to vomit and had diarrhea along with a severe headache after being forced to take the medicine. Despite her protest, Tang made her take the medicine again the next day, and she suffered the same symptoms. She refused to take the drug again. Liu Sisi, deputy director of the ward, forced her to sign a liability waiver, which cleared the prison of any responsibility should she fall critically ill.
After Ms. Wang was transferred to a regular ward in May 2021, the guards forced her to read books that slandered Falun Dafa. If she refused to comply, the inmates would beat her. She had to stand still for 17 hours a day and could not go to sleep until 1 or 2 a.m. Even so, the inmates would wake her up every half hour. Director Liu also ordered the inmates to stop her from showering, which made her smell in summer. They also would not let her use the toilet, in attempts to force her to relieve herself in her pants to humiliate her. Liu warned her, “We have ten thousand ways to torture you if you don’t stop the practice.”
Due to torture at the Hubei Province Women’s Prison, many Falun Dafa practitioners have become disabled, mentally disordered, or have died.
Ms. Hu Hanjiao from Hanchuan City was sentenced to three years in 2001, four years in 2008, and five years in 2021. She was once hung up by the wrists from a beam for seven days straight. The forced injection of nerve-damaging drugs caused a mental collapse. She died 13 days after she was admitted to the prison for the last time, on October 28, 2021. She was 53.
Ms. Qin Hanmei from Jianghan District, Wuhan City was arrested on July 22, 2014 and later sentenced to five years. The guards in Hubei Province Women’s Prison tortured her until she was on the brink of death. She was released for medical treatment and died on November 12, 2020, at the age of 55.
