(Minghui.org) About 140 Falun Dafa practitioners are currently incarcerated in the 12th Ward of Liaoning Province Women’s Prison. This is the place designated for Falun Dafa practitioners once they are admitted to the prison.
The only job of the guards and the inmates is to torture the practitioners and make them renounce their faith. An inmate once claimed that they had a 100% success rate in “transforming” practitioners through sophisticated brainwashing and physical torture.
Falun Dafa is a spiritual teaching with meditative exercises that has been brutally persecuted by the Chinese communist regime for the past 24 years.
Two inmates are usually assigned to monitor one practitioner around the clock. The three of them do everything together, including attending brainwashing sessions, doing forced labor, and resting. The two inmates also make sure that “their” practitioner does not talk to other practitioners.
When the practitioner refuses to give up Falun Dafa, the inmates force her to stand still. She won’t be allowed to use the toilet or sleep, until she agrees to renounce her faith. During this time the inmates verbally abuse the practice and its founder. An inmate once told a practitioner who had not used the toilet for over a day, “If you pee on the ground, I will wipe it up with your clothes and bed sheets.” They also threatened the practitioners with being fed bugs.
If a practitioner gives in and agrees to “transform,” the inmates videotape the practitioner writing down statements that slander Falun Dafa and its founder, along with statements guaranteeing that she’ll never practice again. They then take her to the guards’ office, where a captain or a division chief asks her questions that are meant to make the practitioner slander Falun Dafa while videotaping her.
After the paperwork and videos are done, the guards made sure that the practitioners will not change their minds, by implementing a month-long brainwashing session in an isolated room. The practitioners are forced to watch videos that slander Falun Dafa and also write “thought reports” to slander the practice every day. The inmates always check the reports themselves before submitting them to the guards.
Every Tuesday and Thursday there are mandatory “struggle sessions” in the two large prison activity rooms. The captain makes everyone watch a video that slanders Falun Dafa, and asks derogatory questions about the practice. Almost every time, a practitioner is called to answer the question. If the practitioner refuses to smear Falun Dafa, she and the two inmates monitoring her will be brought to the captain’s office, where the three of them are forced to do split squats with their hands on their thighs for two or three hours. Sometimes, the captain will order the practitioner to go through the month-long brainwashing again if their renunciation wasn’t deemed thorough.
On other days outside of Tuesdays and Thursdays, the “transformed” practitioners and inmates perform unpaid labor and attend other brainwashing activities. They also have to watch the communist regime’s propaganda news before bedtime.
If a practitioner changes her mind and declares that her statements to renounce Falun Dafa are null and void, the guards would make the practitioner stand still in a room from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and not allow her to wash. She is not allowed to leave the room, and has to relieve herself in front of the two inmates. This lasts until the practitioner renounces Falun Dafa again. Some practitioners have also had their terms extended if they remain firm in the practice.
