(Minghui.org) A Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, resident was sentenced to four years in prison following her arrest in mid-June 2021. Ms. Liu Huarong is serving time at Shenyang City Women’s Prison.
This is the eighth time that Ms. Liu, around 70 and a former librarian in Shenyang Military Region, has been arrested for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu was previously incarcerated several times in several forced labor camps, brainwashing centers, and prisons for a total of 12 years.
Ms. Liu was first arrested in June 2000 for going to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was held in the Longshan Forced Labor Camp and then in the Shenyang Brainwashing Center located inside the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp.
Her employer, Shenyang Military Region, twice sent her to a brainwashing center, first in 2001 and again in 2002.
To avoid being persecuted, Ms. Liu lived away from home for five months but was arrested again in August 2003 and given three years of forced labor. She was first held at the Longshan Forced Labor Camp before being transferred to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp on November 18, 2003. She was handcuffed and locked in a storage room without light or ventilation for several days. Male guards dragged her out of her cell into a corridor and beat her.
Ms. Liu was taken to the Pingluoshanzhuang Brainwashing Center in Fushun City on December 10, 2006.
She was arrested again in September 2009 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was later sentenced to three years by the Shenhe District Court and served time at Liaoning Province Woman’s Prison. She was released on September 16, 2012.
Ms. Liu’s next arrest was on November 3, 2015, for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime who ordered the persecution. She was held at the Shenyang City Detention Center and later sentenced to three and a half years by the Heping District Court.
