(Minghui.org) An 81-year-old resident of Shuitu Town, Beibei District, Chongqing received a notice from the Jiangbei District Court on June 14, 2023 saying that she was scheduled to appear in court at 10 a.m. on July 4.
Ms. Liu Guibi’s upcoming trial stemmed from her arrest in Jingguan Town, Beibei District on February 16, 2023, when she was reported for talking to people there about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong, a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Agents from the Jingguan Town Police Station also raided Ms. Liu’s home and confiscated several of her Falun Gong books. They released Ms. Liu around midnight and placed her under house arrest.
The Beibei District Procuratorate indicted Ms. Liu on April 18 and forwarded her case to the Jiangbei District Procuratorate on April 26.
Both Beibei and Jiangbei are among the 26 districts of Chongqing. The Jiangbei District Procuratorate and the Jiangbei District Court have been designated to handle Falun Gong cases for the region.
This is not the first time that Ms. Liu has been targeted for her faith in Falun Gong.
Beginning in spring 2000, Ms. Liu was repeatedly arrested and held in various local facilities over the next two years, including the Yaowangguan Brainwashing Center, Tankou Brainwashing Center, Shuitu Town Brainwashing Center, Shuitu Town Nursing Home, Beibei Lockup (where she was kept for seven days), and Beibei Detention Center (where she was kept for one month). During one of her detentions, Ms. Liu was also brought to the Shuitu Town Police Station for interrogation.
Ms. Liu was arrested by officers from the Shuitu Town Police Station on May 9, 2008 while talking to people about Falun Gong at a local market. Her next arrest was on June 5, 2015 in Fuxing Town, Zhong County, Chongqing. She was seized by officers from the Fuxing Town Police Station while putting up Falun Gong informational materials. They drew Ms. Liu’s blood and collected her fingerprints at the police station, then released her at around 9 p.m. that night.
Ms. Liu and two other local practitioners were arrested by officers from the Jingguan Town Police Station on August 11, 2016. She was held at the Beibei District Detention Center for nearly two months before being transferred to the Beibei District Party School Brainwashing Center, where she was held until October 28 that year.
An officer seized Ms. Liu on the street on October 24, 2018. He held her at the Fuxing Town Police Station before taking her to the Beibei District Detention Center. She was found to have three illnesses during the required physical examination. The detention center refused to admit her, and the police released her on bail.
Ms. Liu was arrested again on March 12, 2021 by several officers from the Fuxing Town Police Station and taken to the Beibei District Detention Center the next day.
