(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 7 provinces, where at least 12 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Changyi District Court staff members called Ms. Wang Lihua’s daughter and said her mother had to go to the court for a hearing on May 22, 2024. Ms. Wang was tried in the No. 1 Civil Court of Changyi District Court on May 22. The presiding judge said that Ms. Wang would be sentenced to one year in prison. She returned home that day. The verdict has not yet been announced.
Ms. Zuo Xiuyun was arrested. On the morning of May 23, 2024, her family called Liu Weiping, head of Jin’an District Domestic Security Division, to ask what happened. At 9 a.m. on May 24, the family received a registered letter from the Domestic Security Division. When they opened the envelop, they found a blank sheet inside, with nothing printed on it.
Mr. Zhang Sifeng from Hanyang District was arrested by officers from the Jianghan District Police Department on May 12, 2024. He was taken to the Jianghan District Detention Center that evening. He has been held in custody for approximately 15 days.
Ms. Liu Shumei disappeared from her employer’s home in Changchun City more than a month ago—around April 19, 2024. It was confirmed that she was arrested and held in a detention center. Her specific circumstances are unknown.
Ms. Liu is the second elder sister of Mr. Liu Chengjun, who died from brutal persecution in prison after he was arrested for successfully helping to broadcast, on March 5, 2002, a program that recounted Falun Gong facts across the cable television network in Changchun City and Songyuan City, both in Jilin Province. Ms. Li Jian, a retired teacher from Sun Yat-sen University, was arrested at home by officers from the Haizhu District Police Department and the Xingang Street Police Station in November 2020. She was held in custody. At the end of 2021, she was sentenced to three years and six months in prison and fined 5,000 yuan by the Haizhu District Court.
On April 25, 2022, the Guangzhou City Intermediate Court upheld the original verdict. In prison, she was not allowed to sleep. She was beaten when she dozed off, and otherwise abused. On May 5, 2024, she was released and returned home, but the authorities did not tell her family members which day she would be released.
Ms. Wang Chunping from Gaocun Town, Haiwendeng District, and Ms. Liang Renfen from Datuan Town, Rongcheng City, were reported to the police on the morning of April 28, 2024, for talking to people about Falun Gong. They were arrested and taken to a town police station, but were later released and taken home by their families. The police ransacked Ms. Wang’s home that day and confiscated all her Falun Gong books and materials.
A group of officers from the Ningcheng County Domestic Security Division and the Daming Town Police Station broke into Mr. Lu Tonggang’s home at 8 a.m. on May 21, 2024. They ransacked the place and confiscated all his Falun Gong books, tapes, and CDs. They also took photos of the founder of Falun Gong, a desktop computer, and a printer, among other personal items. Mr. Lu was not at home at the time, but his 75-year-old father was there. The police took the his father to the police department for interrogation and took his father’s cell phone, which they have not returned. His father was later taken home.
Mr. Lu left home in order to avoid the persecution.
Wu Xinjian from the Liyuan Police Station in Hongshan District and other people broke into the home of Ms. Zhang, (who is in her 70s), on the morning of May 10, 2024. They presented police ID cards. They said that surveillance cameras captured her distributing Falun Gong materials. They confiscated some Falun Gong books. They took Ms. Zhang to the police station that day. She was interrogated and held for eight hours before she was released.
Wu Suilan (gender unknown), 78, from Donglai Township, was arrested by officers from the Laozhan Police Station in Tonghua City when he or she bought a ticket to go home using paper bills with Falun Gong information printed on them. Wu returned home that evening.
Several officers from the Sanshilipu Police Station in Jinzhou District broke into Ms. Zhao Guizhi’s home at Sanshilipu Farm on the morning of May 13, 2024. They ransacked the place and confiscated her Falun Gong books, and tore up photos of the founder of Falun Gong. Ms. Zhao’s daughter fainted on the spot when she saw this. When the police left they said, “We are not done with you yet.”
Several police officers broke into Ms. Huang Meichun’s home around 8 p.m. on May 20, 2024. They asked, “Do you still practice Falun Gong?” Ms. Huang said, “Yes, I do! I was not in good health before I began practicing.”
The police ransacked her home and confiscated over 10 Falun Gong books. Ms. Huang tried to get her books back, but she did not succeed.
